In chapter 22, America faced prosperity decade from 1920 to 1928. Since World War I broke out in 1914, America produced a lot of war supplies for orders. However, after this war ended, the orders of war supplies were cancelled all, and bunch of people who just discharged from military service came back to the nation immediately to seek their jobs. Very fortunately, unlike postwar depression, America’s economic decline didn’t occur immediately after World War I was finished. On the other hand, America experienced the growth of economic development such as the GNP expanded by 16 percent. Stock helped increasing parvenus, and buying and selling a stock was quite certain route for becoming rich quickly. However, only agriculture could not extend its property because farmers could not pay their mortgage and legislation to assist farmers also could not help farm economy. Since the automobile was developed, American life pattern also was quite changed. Various farming equipment and automobile showed easy way to convey the products to market rapidly, and highways made traveling time short for travelers. Homogenized culture invented fad, trends and development of media. However, on the one hand, some American intellectuals didn’t like those changes because they thought materialism and conventionalism were dangerous and dull for America. In prosperity decade, African American culture also did remarkable progress in entire cities of America. Especially the jazz, one of the music genre, became the most important element that various music genre derived from.
