The American Dream is composed of the freedom to be whatever you want to be, and do whatever you want to do with your life. Education, above all else, is Key when it comes to your future. However, as the education system is today, it no longer seems a privilege, a wondrous opportunity to succeed and to be what you want to be, now it 's more of an obligation, a punishment. It is without a doubt in my mind that the enactment of this bill will restore the education system into what it is supposed to be, a system meant to educate people for their adult life. Not only does this bill allow opportunity to reverse the decision to leave school, but it also allows the students to retain basic skills needed for the work force, and the reduced academic …show more content…

According to the clear language group, the average adult reads at a 7th and 8th grade level. Not to mention the fact that the american adult has below average math skills according to the National Public Radio, meaning that with the knowledge fresh in their minds, they would actually be above the rest. Although they cannot work, instead of learning Geometry, or Civics, they could learn specialized skills, by taking art apprenticeships, acting courses, pursuing passions, finding what they 're good at, and when they do, then they can focus on that. If the child finds that they like computers and learn that they need math for that, then they can take math classes, learn that. Why should we push kids towards a one-size fits all education, which has no clear benefit towards any career, when they can specialize these skills outside of schools towards a career they know they …show more content…

According to the Washington post, a single mother of 7 died in a Pennsylvania Jail because she was arrested for not being able to pay fines for truancy. In Duval County Florida, not too far from here, 18 parents were arrested for their kids skipping school according to the Bradenton Patch news service. Most of these children were already in their teens. Most parents don 't have as much control over their kids by then, so they are being punished for something that it ultimately beyond their control. Perhaps if instead of punishing, the school system focused on helping educate the kids, these tragedies wouldn 't happen. Is it too much to say that a struggling parent should be jailed for being too busy doing the job of both parents? If they no longer felt afraid of the fines and the punishments, maybe they could gather a bough time or money to engage with their kids and actually encourage them to stay in
