From the old days to today, the source of motivation for the American people was always the American Dream. The American Dream is a goal everybody wants to achieve; many people define the dream as owning a home, two cars, and a secure finance. The basic requirement to achieve the American Dream is hard work and also some patience. Today the prerequisites for enjoying the dream are different; unlike in the previous days, a college degree and experience is often a requirement to have a good paying job, but also having the ability to save money is important in achieving the American Dream. In today’s life, college degrees are essential almost everywhere; the world is more developed and advanced, there are many industries, companies, institutions; hence, they demand more qualified, professional person to handle the job, and this is where a college degree can be used, “Nowadays, a high school diploma does not make the person enjoy the American Dream” (Who’s In, Who’s Out). In other words, good paying jobs today require something higher than a high school diploma. By earning a degree, more opportunities and chances are available. James Adams defines the American dream as a “dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability and achievement” (Adams qtd. in King 610). Currently, the American Dream is accessible by anyone. Since high school is free of charge, almost everyone can go to college and take the help of financial aid for tuition fee. There are two types of aids students can make use of the federal and the state grant. Not all students are eligible for financial aid, but students also can make use of the student loans that can help them to pay for college. In college, when choosing a major students must consider their interests and the working industry for that major. For example, the Aircraft maker Boeing stated that “558,000 new commercial airline pilots will be needed over the next 20 years” (Virginia).
