Ambition is shared by people from different walks of life. It provides the mind with reason to keep moving forward, by focusing on a set of goals. This focus can vary from person to person: a reason for success for one and failure for another. Independent of the result, ambition gives each person the ability to visualize and achieve their goals. The steps taken for achieving one’s ambition defines the individual. However, mankind strives for perfection and constantly tweak their focus for an ideal result. Therefore, the ambition of men can never be satisfied. The text creator Ayn Rand illustrates this trait of men in Anthem, through the character Equality 7-2521; whose hunger for knowledge increases with passing days.

Anthem is not a hard book to understand, but it can still be difficult to grasp the full meaning of it. The meaning of which is elusive at points, slipping between your fingers and resting on the pages in plain view. Unity, we, I, Ego, it all plays a major part in this book along with the symbolism of things.

“For the coming of that day shall I fight…” (Anthem 104). Equality 7 - 2521 was oppressed for being contradistinctive than others in his society. In the story Anthem by Ayn Rand the story takes place during a time when everything is technologically primal. It's a primitive society that takes place after modern times. The book doesn't say directly, but it suggest that something bad happened and now they have a society where everyone has had their freedom and individualism taken
In Ayn Rand’s dystopian novella Anthem, the theme that individual thinking is essential to human progress is developed. This theme is demonstrated through the events of the plot throughout the story. An example of this can be seen when the protagonist, Equality 7-2521, tells about the great “modern inventions” made such as “...the newest one, which [was] found only a hundred years ago, of how to make candles from wax and string…”(Rand 23-24). This reveals how unadvanced this society is. Instead of progressing beyond present technology, the collective society has degressed all the way back to the candle. This is due to the lack of individual thinking and the rejection of new ideas. When individuals are able to think freely and question things
In Anthem, Ayn Rand portrays the idea that even if the journey to freedom is difficult, the end product is worth the work. In the novel, the main character is Equality. He lives in an era that is strictly against individuality. Equality started off as someone who accepted and feared the regulations of the government. Society was deprived of the freedom of their thoughts. When Equality found himself having individual thoughts, he would repeat to himself, “We are one in all and all in one. There are no meant but only the great we, one, indivisible and forever.” (Page 10). The repetition of this statement shows Equality’s negligence to the use of the word ‘we’. In the opinion of the government,’we’ was used as a term that showed the unity of

However, the government should not be able to have control over the people because everyone is their own person.
The novella Anthem, is a very unique story about a man’s strive for independence and freedom. The rules and restrictions of the society he lives in does not allow him to have a personal opinion. At the end of the noella he ends up changing his name to Prometheus and become a fearless, true independent man. Throughout the story Equality clashes heads with his society and creates friction. Everyone living in the society is brainwashed by the evil rules they live under until Equality paves a way toward freedom.
the theory and practice of the ownership of land and the means of production by the people or the state. (Oxford Pocket Dictionary of Current English)
You walk the same walk, talk the same talk, and think the same thoughts. No one is different. In fact, there is no “one” of anything. Equality is a very undefined topic that has many unanswered questions. I want to shed a little bit of light on it. To me, equality is a concept that we all strive for, of being the same as everyone, and fitting in. There’s deeper meaning than meets the eye about equality. This idea robs us of freedom, but we still use this collective idea as individuals to fit in, have friends, and be happy because we are willing to sacrifice some freedom for happiness. Equality can never fully take control of a society either because societies that work very well are the ones that use a little bit of collective and individualistic ideas. It’s only a matter of
“Our uniqueness, our individuality, and our life experience molds us into fascinating beings. I hope we can embrace that. I pray we may all challenge ourselves to delve into the deepest resources of our hearts to cultivate an atmosphere of understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion. We are all in this life together.” -Linda Thompson. In the Novel Anthem by Ayn Rand, the main character Equality 7-2521 (later known as Prometheus), documents his story of his discovery of the word “I”. He later writes his anthem about how individuality and uniqueness are the most important attributes to mankind, he shows this when he writes, “I am done with the monster of ‘We,’ the word of serfdome, of plunder,
