Amazon.com Implementing Management Amazon.com was first launched in 1994 by Jeff Bezos. Once it was launched Amazon has constantly grown and, after just a few years Amazon went public in 1997. Amazon has continued to grow, they have even acquired other businesses such as Zappos, Woot.com, and Kiva Systems. These acquisitions allow Amazon.com to grow even bigger. However, Amazon does not just depend on acquiring other companies to grow their business. Amazon has come up with their own devices and other products to help improve their business. Amazon is known mostly for selling books online, but they also sell many different things like electronics, appliances, clothes, and household items. In order for a business to be successful it has to plan. Planning is so important whether it is planning to hire a new employee or planning for the next five years. Because Amazon is a Fortune 100 company it has to have good planning. By setting specific goals and how you will obtain the goals can be very difficult. According to Keblis and Chen (2006), Amazon’s previous planning approach for contact centers was a very long process that only forecast about one weeks’ time. Amazon realized that they needed help planning to set goals and achieve them so they contacted Keblis and Chen to help improve their customer service and planning process. With their help Amazon was given a solution to their planning problems. The new approach to planning given to Amazon.com helps them determine the peak times the contact centers are used. This allows Amazon to plan for the times that they will have more customers using the contact centers. Because they will be more prepared for the spike in the use of contact centers, they will have the means to attain the goal of better customer service. In order make a plan that will work it is helpful to set a S.M.A.R.T goal, or a specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely goal.
