“Dida! Dida! “ i shout to my grandmother. She just sits on her chair staring in the same direction not responding to my overtures. She has been suffering from Alzheimer’s for the last decade. Her condition worsens every six months affecting various aspects of her health. Her first downfall was noticed when she could’nt remember recent incidents. She would forget information or incidents that occured even five minutes back. Gradually she lost self control, she required help to eat her food, bathe and even walk around. Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia causing problems with thinking, memory and behaviour. Alzheimer’s has different stages wherein it becomes severe enough to interfere with the activities of our daily life. Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia. Dementia is not a disease. It is a general term that is used to describe a decline in mental ability involving thinking and other mental activities. It can get serious and interfere with daily activities.
