All that jazz is a film made by Bob Fosse in 1979, as a semi-autobiographical picture. Staring Roy Scheider as Joe Gideon a washed up, drug, and sex addicted film and theater director. Working on a one-million-dollar play, and Jessica Lange who plays lady death.
Now one of the main things the film does well is its music. Now when someone thinks of musical/ theater film. They probably expect that film to have good music. But all that jazz really take it over the top. Not just with the amount of musical numbers. But also the quality for example the scene at the end of the film. Where Joe is signing one last tune.

A lot of the actors have trouble signing in the musicals they are given. Like with Roy Scheider he really doesn’t sign that well in all the time that he does sing at the end of the film. Or in the hospital musical theme Leland Palmer playing Audrey Paris, Joes wife. When she is singing it sounds kind of screechy. With would definitely turn off audiences from watching the film. In that same scene a very regrettable decision was made to have Joe’s daughter sing in the play. Now most of the time when someone cast a child in a signing roll it either for the plot or as a way to bring in a wider audience. But this film decides to have her sing. This was very regrettable just because most child actors can’t hit any notes and their voices are very screechy. Making the entire medical scene at the end spoiled.
But overall, All that jazz by Bob Fosse. Is a good film even if the audience isn’t looking for musical. From all the over the top musical numbers, to the scene where Joe is talking with death. Plus, with the films non-Apologetically nature of the ideas it presents. Making people who watch this film really think about what life is and how you should live it.
