Today we know Alexander the great as the person who conquered in 13 years the largest empire in the ancient world. His father was King Philip II. Philip’s goal was to conquer Persia but was assassinated before he could. In 336 B.C.E., at the age of 20, Alexander the Great took the throne and inherited his father goal to conquer Persia. Alexander the Great definitely became one of the greatest military commander in history.
There are many stories are told about Alexander the Great, whether they are real or not is not really known. In Freeman’s biography it says that Alexander was born in a family or royalty. His family told stories that suggest that Alexander and Hercules were related (Freeman 5). Also his father Philip married numerous times before he married Olympias, Alexander’s mom. Philip was trying conceive a fit hier to the thrown which his previous wife had failed to give him (Freeman 15). It is sad that Olympias got pregnant with Alexander by a lighting bot striking her womb and that Philip later on had a dream that he placed a lion figure on her womb. One night Philip saw Olympias in bed with a snake and caused him to fear that she may place a spell on him, so he barely visited her bedroom there after (Freeman 17). In Yenne’s book it talks about a story that “Alexander was born ‘on the day the temple of Ephesian Artemis was burned’,” and that this was seen as a sign that there was to be disaster in the future of Asia (Yenne 16).
When Alexander was young boy his father made sure he was taught by the best. He was educated by Aristotle. Philip was very happy with the job Aristotle did in teaching his son. Alexander learned how to love to read and even admired Homer’s Iliad (Freeman16). Also Alexander showed confidence as...

...ing which both helped him be extremely successful. He was a very great military leader and won many battles without ever being defeated. Without a doubt Alexander the great is one of the best Military commander that ever lived.
