A Psychoanalytic understanding of the life of Alecia Beth Moore This is a psychoanalytic understanding of the life of the extremely famous singer, song writer and actress known as “P!NK”. In this text I will aim to create an understanding into the life of this well-known star. Introduction: Alecia, formerly known as P!NK, was born September 8 1979, into a middle classed family. Pink was the second child born to Judy and “Jim”. Faced a very difficult upbringing, which helped her to build resilience. In the early 2000’s, she became a popular singer, with a distinctive voice and strong personality. There are three aspects of Alecia’s life that we will be analysing. As a toddler, her parents experienced marital conflicts, which resulted in a cut off from emotions, and rebellion. Before the conflict, Alecia was close and influenced by her father, a Vietnam war veteran. Who taught her survival skills, which contributed to the tough girl image, and personality. Skills like fighting, using knives and guns. He first introduced her to the music of Bob Dylan and Don McLean, this may have contributed to her passion for music. From an early age she learnt to be “tough”. Perhaps a mode of defence to keep her protected, from all that may have been happening during childhood (Advameg Inc, 2018). Before reaching double digits, her parents divorced. This affected Alecia, unconsciously. She rebelled and began to act out after the divorce. Started smoking at 9, and continued for years. Amazingly her first tattoo was at 12, and got her tongue pierced that year, perhaps the tough girl image persona?
