Once a person admits that they have a problem, and steps away from their denial, they can finally begin the difficult process of detoxification and address the type of behavior that caused the addiction. Although alcohol affects everybody differently, there is strong evidence that there are not any positive effects from consuming too much alcohol. When somebody is affected by alcohol abuse, their behavior with family, friends, and relationships usually takes a drastic turn for the worst. People who abuse alcohol generally have anger issues. They easily get angry over little things, and especially if they are criticized for their alcohol consumption.
In addition, with alcohol being a restricted item for minors it makes the “wanting” of consuming alcohol even greater. This makes people want to drink, and drinking can lead to many bad consequences. If society lowers the drinking age then there would not be many cases of underage drinkers. “There are 10.8 million underage drinkers in the United States” (Underage Drinking Statistics). If the age was eighteen instead of twenty-one there would not be as much abuse of alcohol consumption in the United States.

Family experience can also be a problem with drunk driving because heavy alcohol use by parents, sibling, or any parental supervision can be cause of the start of drinking. Peer friendships are viral due to the lack of peer influences. “Teens who drink alcohol teen to have opposite sex friends who do the same thing” (Join Together Staff). Peer drinking is more than an influence. It could come from their own parents who start drinking.

Repeated use of alcohol over a period of time can result in alcohol abuse. Millions of people enjoy drinking on occasion. When drinking becomes a routine, people become dependent on alcohol. Alcohol addiction has enormous and somewhat fatal consequences on humans.
Decisions always have a consequence, no matter who the person is that made the decision, decisions affect people’s lives. These decisions normally affect their lives in a negative way, and can cause more harm than good. For example, drinking alcohol has many negative effects on people, whether it be in their lives or their neighbor’s life. Alcohol has many negative effects on people like their health, family life, and safety of others. Alcohol has many terrible effects on a person’s health.
Every year, thousands of minors die from the use of alcohol. Many young adults abuse the drinking age policy. It is put in effect for substantial reasons, which contribute in making the safest environment for all. Drinking underage is not only illegal, but also damages one’s health tremendously. Furthermore, drinking in large amounts is extremely dangerous and can cause detrimental things to occur.

Withdrawal and treatment are hard and very expensive as well.

(NIH: National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2012) The Mayo Clinic defines alcoholism as a chronic disease in which your body becomes dependent on alcohol (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2010), and indicates that more than 100,000 Americans die annually from alcohol related causes (Johnson) . Aside from the physical problems that alcohol addiction can create, there are frequently emotional and social complications. Alcoholism is a disease that harms not only the alcoholic, but also the co-workers and family of the alcoholic. Society has given us stereotypical images of the alcoholic.
