There are many alcohol related deaths in the world today whether it is because of drunk driving, or just because someone drank too much and destroyed their liver. Many people think these problems are problems that could easily be avoided if people did not use drinking as a way out of the things in life that are hard. Many people do not realize what they might do when they are drunk, or what it could effect in their life. There is no definite cause of Alcohol Abuse or Alcoholism, though there are many reasons as to why people may drink. Alcohol Abuse can ruin lives, goals, families and many other things for a persons life.
A large number of people in the world die from different diseases caused by alcohol. According to the Maclean's magazine, " In 1993, 3,062 people died from diseases directly related to alcohol consumption such as cirrhosis. Alcohol was also involved in almost 16,000 other deaths in fires, motor vehicle accidents, acts of violence and other incidents." (37) Many people think that alcoholism in an incurable disease, but they are wrong. An alcoholic can be treated in many ways, but of course, he/she has to recognize that he/she is an alcoholic and wish to be cured.
People who regularly turn to alcohol eventually begin to neglect their families and other responsibilities, consequently wrecking the lives of loved ones and their own as well. While the lasting negative effects of alcohol use are spewed daily through the media, the problems will not stop until society completely understands how alcohol can indeed pose a serious threat to the nations social welfare. Alcohol has an adverse effect on the economy. The consequences of alcohol abuse and dependence cost the nation an estimated $99 billion each year (Gordis, 209). It is tax money that pays for alcoholics who both live on the street and are barely getting by or who are in government-funded hospitals and institutions.
Alcoholism can have a negative effect on a person’s overall character, health, and morals. Alcohol abuse is a very substantial problem nowadays, but not a lot of people understand what is happening to their health when they consume an alcoholic beverage. Alcohol has a great deal of negative, or harmful effects on a persons body and health. "Alcohol Abuse Health Center" as published on WebMD, states that "Long term heavy drinking harms your liver, nervous system, heart, and brain. It can cause health problems or make them worse."

It is associated with an estimated 100,000 deaths per year in the United States. Alcohol consumption can produce both benefits and risks.
In today's modern society alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse has become one of the most complex, life-threatening issues. Most depressed individuals usually indulge themselves in bars or pubs with their alcohols to escape from their stressful life. It has become increasingly alarming how alcohol does not only attract the adults, but also teenagers these days. "Research has shown that approximately 14 million Americans (7.4%) of the population meet the diagnostic criteria for alcohol abuse or alcoholism" ("Facts about Alcohol"). Alcohol addicts may encounter social impact such as loss of respect from others who may see the problem as self- inflictive and easily avoided.
Drinking alcohol affects the human body, mind and life in a very bad way, and just like drugs; alcoholics have to deal with the negative effects of drinking alcohol. I consider drinking alcohol as an issue because many people were killed in different ways by a drunken person.
