A college campus is nothing without a gym. College sports, and cultural events take place in the T.M. Elmore Gym on Alabama A&M’s campus. This gym is located on the west side of A&M’s campus between Louis Crews stadium and Dr. Ernest L. Knight West Campus dorms. This building has made a large impact on the culture of the school considering that the gym is home to sports teams, classrooms, pep rallies, guest speakers and convocations. T.M. Elmore gymnasium was built in 1974 in Normal, AL under president Richard D Morrison. President Morrison was the fifth president of Alabama A&M university, he was born on Januray 18th, 1908 in Utica ,Mississipi. Morrison died July 30th, 2011 at the age of 103. Elmore Gymnasium is located behind the knight complex, and also behind the Alabama A&M University football stadium. The Gymnasium, informally known as “The Dog House”, has been the permanent home of Alabama A&M men’s and basketball since it was built in 1974. Over the years, the bulldogs have made this one of the toughest places in the country for visiting teams to leave with a victory. Although 25-year head coach Vann Pettaway ended his career in 2010-2011, he leaves the bulldogs homestand at a outstanding 290-64 victories in T.M. Elmore Gymnasium. In this gym the bulldogs have gone undefeated at home under Pettaway. The 1988-89 squad finished 17-0 on its home floor, and 1955-96 team finished on the home floor 15-0 respectively. In 1966, the T.M. Elmore Gym was ranked the fourth toughest place to play in NCAA division 2 basketball.
