Air Superiority In the war against the Islamic State, the United States has conducted eighty-five percent of the multi-national air strikes against them. Consequently, the United States fighter jets and drones conducted roughly 819 air strikes that began August 8. Even though the United States is leading most of the air strikes in the Middle East, Air Force leaders are fighting a new battle on Capitol Hill – budget cuts. The proposed budget cuts are expected to take place in 2016, and lawmakers are insisting that ten billion dollars has to be cut from the Air Force’s part of the President’s proposed budget. I am all for balancing the United States budget; however, do we really need to downsize one of our most powerful weapons? Budget cuts will hinder the Air Force’s ability to maintain and stay ahead with technological advances. Other nations have already begun using United States’ models to build their own aircraft fleets. Some people might not see the problem that lies in this, while others see a new threat developing. If the United States cannot maintain her own air fleet, or even stay ahead with new technology, I believe the United States will lose its military advantage. Instead of reducing military funding, consideration of cutting out ObamaCare could be entertained, along with cutting the funding which goes toward the illegal immigrants in the United States. The Air Force might investigate ways to downsize the air fleet while modernizing it as a whole; therefore, making the budget cuts unnecessary. Controversy has plagued America’s presence in the Middle East and America’s usage of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) contributes vastly to this controversy. Their usefulness and ability to keep allied troops out of harm’s reach is hardly disputed. However, their presence in countries that are not at war with America, such as Pakistan and Yemen, is something contested. People that see the implications of drone use are paying special attention to the civilian casualty count, world perspective, and the legality of drone operations in non-combative states. The use of drone technology in the countries of Yemen and Pakistan are having negative consequences. In a broad spectrum, unconsented drone strikes are illegal according to the laws of armed conflict, unethical, and are imposing a moral obligation upon those who use them. These issues are all of great importance and need to be addressed. Their legality is also something of great importance and begins with abiding to the Laws of Armed Conflict.
The country needs to start monitoring how the government is spending the federal budget and they need to start splitting it fairly to benefit our country. 83% of the federal budget is spent on the Big Five which are the main expenses in the budget. We have to stop spending it all on the Big Five. Our government should really pay attention to what we need most of in this country and focus on the needs. The government needs to take away 20% of the Big Five and split it to categories that need it.

Although cuts have to happen they don't necessarily need to happen at schools, schools should never be making budget cuts when there's so many other things we can cut. Military equipment for example can be cut we just launched fifty missiles into our “enemies” missiles averaging out to a cost of millions of dollars. There is no reason why schools should be cutting programs just so we have other things like military weapons being funded.
The cost of the personnel has increased to nearly an unsustainable rate since 2000. Wartime funding was increased over inflation but the personnel has dropped. That being said, the defense spending in 2015 will be about $600 billion or 3.24 of the GDP. The defense budget pays into not only base defense, but also to veterans, civilian and foreign military aid. Each of these expenditures go into the percentage that the government is allocating to defense. Contrary to popular opinion, the money does not strictly go to weapons and military personnel. Establish cut-and-invest committee, it can cut low-priority spending, increase high-priority investment, and consolidate duplicative federal programs. Cut-and-Invest Committee would expected to cut 200 billion dollars in discretionary cuts, freezing up to 100 billion dollars in high-priority investments. Downside to this may be losing a lot of blue collars jobs in current economy. I think it’s a good idea it might lose jobs but it will a lot increase a lot federal job since and it manage what is necessary and what isn’t.
