Air Superiority In the war against the Islamic State, the United States has conducted eighty-five percent of the multi-national air strikes against them. Consequently, the United States fighter jets and drones conducted roughly 819 air strikes that began August 8. Even though the United States is leading most of the air strikes in the Middle East, Air Force leaders are fighting a new battle on Capitol Hill – budget cuts. The proposed budget cuts are expected to take place in 2016, and lawmakers are insisting that ten billion dollars has to be cut from the Air Force’s part of the President’s proposed budget. I am all for balancing the United States budget; however, do we really need to downsize one of our most powerful weapons? Budget cuts will hinder the Air Force’s ability to maintain and stay ahead with technological advances. Other nations have already begun using United States’ models to build their own aircraft fleets. Some people might not see the problem that lies in this, while others see a new threat developing. If the United States cannot maintain her own air fleet, or even stay ahead with new technology, I believe the United States will lose its military advantage. Instead of reducing military funding, consideration of cutting out ObamaCare could be entertained, along with cutting the funding which goes toward the illegal immigrants in the United States. The Air Force might investigate ways to downsize the air fleet while modernizing it as a whole; therefore, making the budget cuts unnecessary. I believe more money should be allocated towards air and maritime power due to their increasing roles in military
