Robbin et al (2012) highlighted that the average age of the workforce has been increasing due to medical and technological advancement. The introduction of laws and regulations to protect older workers provides the choice to continue working after the generally accepted retirement age. As such, ageism has proliferated the workplace and top Managers, trade unions and policy makers are charged with the responsibility to develop concepts and implement measures to reduce and fight ageism (Hofacker 2014). This paper seeks to answer specific question that is related to increasing age diversity in the workplace.

According to Merriam Webster online dictionary, ageism refers to prejudice or discrimination against a particular age-group and especially the elderly. Ageism can create an intimidating work environment that negatively impact the work performance, morale, and employment and advancement opportunities for older workers (allbusiness.com). I am in total agreement that workers should be treated fairly, regardless of age, and managers who takes the time to ensure that ageism is non-existence under their management has upheld the principles of ethical business and ethical organizations (allbusiness.com).

Job advertisements should not stipulate age preferences but rather clearly provide all necessary information regarding the skills and ability to effectively carry out the job requirement. Job that requires lifting or standing should clearly states the requirements that applicant must be able to carry or lift a certain amount of weight and stand for prolonged hours in order to do this particular job (Robbin et al 2012). Additionally, potential employees should not be asked or indirectly asked about their age during an interview
