Age Group Interviews
In New Zealand, between the 15- 24 year old age gap there are many major health issues.
This report will focus on health issues for youth in New Zealand. For the purpose of this report, the interviewees’ names are confidential, and therefore I will acknowledge them as A, B and C.

My aim:
To investigate the interviewees’ views on major health issues in their age group.

Method:
First I chose an age group, which was youth- 15-24 year olds. I then developed a list of questions that I could ask the interviewees, with consideration of who I could interview. I decided on three people, and tried to select a diverse group from the described categories (sex, socio-economic group, ethnicity, background, lifestyle). Before the interviews, I contacted participants A and B, and directly approached participant C. I explained the assignment, and asked if they would agree to be interviewed. Together we arranged a suitable time and location, so we would not be disturbed. I then interviewed them individually.

Brief description of the interviewees:
I interviewed three individuals to see what they thought were major health issues for their age group, of 15 -24 year olds.
Interviewee A is a 23 year old male of predominantly European background. Economically, he would be seen as a part of the upper middle class. He is a student who enjoys social smoking and drinking. Interviewee A is a family member.
Interviewee B is an 18 year old female who is of New Zealand European heritage. She comes from a lower class family, and is currently a student at the University of Canterbury. She is a long- time friend who does not smoke or drink.
Interviewee C is a 22 year old female who has a Middle-Eastern background. She is a part of a mi...

... By educating in schools, family environments and the community everyone works together towards the same goal. The effectiveness of this would be that health educators are giving everyone the same information and the knowledge could be built on in all three different environments.

Conclusion:
In New Zealand, there are several major health issues for 15- 24 year olds. All three interviewees thought drinking issues were a health concern for their age group. They also said that mental health, mens sexual health, unsafe sex and unhealthy eating habits were other major issues. This was a good reflection of the status of health issues in New Zealand, although they did not state unintentional injury, general drug use, self-harm and suicide. Prevention and education are potential focus areas for health educators, in order to reduce these issues for 15-24 year olds.
