There is a population of people that are not being discussed or is over looked. Most of these people are trying to survive on day to day basis. Due to certain barriers, it is difficult for them to maintain stability or self-esteem. They are rivaled with violence, low or no employment and are seen and left vulnerable while living in the community. African Americans that have disabilities and who live in indigence communities have little or no resources. This is an important issue because more and more African Americans are either being killed or injured from violence in the community or outside the community. African American seniors become disabled as they age or as they return from war. Genetics could also play a huge role. Whatever the case may be, African Americans with disability is not being heard or seen. Their struggles are not being reflected upon. I am also speaking from experience. The focus is going to be on People with disabilities, all age groups, who live in struggling communities and who are African American. Most African American men with disabilities tend to five up hope sooner than a “normal” African American men. Some African American women tend to accept their disabilities and continue to start their own family. Hence, most of society see this a taboo. Especially, in the Black community. African Americans with disabilities are faced with additional challenges that most people in our society have not experienced yet. Such as, trying get medical coverage for Personal Care Attendants, medical equipment, being abused, being taking advantage, etc. African Americans with disabilities are often mocked, starred at and made fun of while living in the community. This could lead to isolation which will be discussed later
