Jackie Robinson and rhe Sports Culture African Americans integrating into the sports culture with other races is a big part of the United States and sports history. Some important events that led to this happening is Jackie Robinson, his role in American baseball, and how it gave an opportunity for african americans in other sports. Baseball, america's pastime, was booming in the late 40s and and 50s. Unfortunately, during this time, all sports were segregated. In baseball there was the Negro League and the Major League. As you can tell the Negro League was blacks only and Major was white, but once the part owner of Brooklyn Dodgers, Branch Rickey, set his sight on Robinson everything changed. Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia, on January 31, 1919. As a child Robinson's father left him and his siblings so his mother Mallie moved all of them to Pasadena, California. He gave courage and opportunity for other african americans around the U.S. to play the sport they want and play with any race successfully. In 1945, after Robinson's exposure, many other sports attempted to integrate too.
