In today’s society our justice system is corrupted because your fate in a court room is decided by the color of your skin. In my opinion society is fitful, because your skin color ascertains who people think you are and what people think you should be. You are held to low expectations and are conjectured to be a statistic. I believe race plays a huge role in our justice system today because in the cases of Emmett Till Rodney King and Trayvon Martin we witness unjust verdicts and broken-hearted families as a result of negligence. I believe the issue would’ve been different if these African American men were Caucasian because the racism in this country is alive and well.
In the case of Emmett Till, there was no justice served in his incident. The case took place in Money Mississippi when Emmett went pay a visitation to some of his family members that lived in the South, unaware that the Racism in the south was far more parlous than the North. Emmett and a few of his companions went to the store to buy some candy. While in the store Emmett had done something that made the women irate with him. Regardless of knowing the actual cause for the women feeling violated by Tills actions, she took business into her own hands by marching to her car and bringing out her gun shocking trepidation into Emmett ‘s body. ...the favor of the victim and not the offender. The lawyer of Trayvon Martin wanted to paint a picture of an innocent child who was no longer alive due to the superiority felt by this monster.
In conclusion, in contemplating the cases of Emmett Till, Rodney King, and Trayvon Martin, these African American men were shown no justice to society because of the color of their skin. This just goes to show that racism in this country is very well alive and well. There has been countless times where we have witness the justice system failed the African American community countless of times over several decades. I think a possible panacea for this predicament is overlooking skin color for a change and start viewing, and judging cases off of honesty like it should be.
