Governmental policies regarding minorities in society engagements and jobs are intended to guarantee that qualified people have equivalent access to open doors and are given a reasonable opportunity to prove their abilities and capabilities to pop culture. The stress on the Affirmative Action approaches is good fortune. This project is intended to break down limitations, both unmistakable and unnoticeable to make sure that all qualified competitors for employments and school affirmations are given reasonable and equivalent thought. However, they are not meant to guarantee equal results but instead proceed on the notion that if equality of opportunity were a reality, African Americans, Women, people with disabilities and other groups facing discrimination would be fairly represented in the nation’s work force and educational institutions. They think that giving everyone equal rights is not enough to overcome the burden. Therefore, for everyone to be truly equal some people must be given certain benefits. So in hiring, acceptance to college, and other related things, businesses or colleges must hire or accept applicants on the basis of sex and race. In doing so they should give preference to blacks, women, and other minorities. This preference in hiring and accepting to level out the playing field is often called equality of results.
Affirmative action on the other hand is progressively trying to push for equality among the races and help those find a way to become equal in society without being discriminated against. In effect, affirmative action and racial profiling are two very separate points of views on the same subject due to the direction of where they want society to lead towards. Affirmative action and racial profiling strive for the same end result but chooses diverse ways of making it to that goal. Many even conclude that both want equality but in their own way. For example according to Elvin Lim, an associate professor at Wesleyan University, “by moving away from formal equality toward a more substantive conception of equality that incorporates the principle of historical remedy, a liberal can remain consistently pro-affirmative action, and still be anti-racial profiling.”.
Instead, it was intended only to rectify discrimination in hiring and academic admissions. When assessing the necessity of affirmative action, the question Americans should ask: Does affirmative action counteract the continuing inequality caused by discrimination? Studies shown that it does. And when affirmative action programs expands access to education and employment for individuals from underrepresented minority groups without substantially diminishing the opportunities of white applicants, the benefits far outweigh any harm.
Affirmative Action Few social policy issues have served as a better gauge of racial and ethnic divisions among the American people than affirmative action. Affirmative action is a term referring to laws and social policies intended to alleviate discrimination that limits opportunities for a variety of groups in various social institutions. Supporters and opponents of affirmative action are passionate about their beliefs, and attack the opposing viewpoints relentlessly. Advocates believe it overcomes discrimination, gives qualified minorities a chance to compete on equal footing with whites, and provides them with the same opportunities. Opponents charge that affirmative action places unskilled minorities in positions they are not qualified for and violates the Fourteenth Amendment.

Have they been reaping the benefits of affirmation action? As a nation devoted to equality, the United States must do away with unproductive race-dividing policies. By eliminating them, Americans can take major steps in promoting competition and overcoming the color barrier. In his famous march in 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. longed for a society where "people would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Moreover, skin-color and social status should be irrelevant in hiring employees.
Supporters and opponents of affirmative action hold strong to their believes and constantly attack the opposing viewpoints. Advocates believe that affirmative action overcomes discrimination, gives qualified minorities a chance to compete on equal footing whites, and provides them with the same opportunities. Opponents claim that affirmative action puts unskilled minorities Cannon 2 in positions that they are not qualified for, tarnishes the reputation of minorities that accomplishes success on their own, and violates the Fourteenth Amendment. Since the beginning of affirmative action, the definition has been ever changing in order to satisfy the present beliefs of society. Prohibiting the discrimination in hiring, expanding the filing of application to include more minorities, compensating for past grievances, setting “quotas” (percentages of a certain type of people that had to be included), have all been part of the definition.
There is no chromosome or trait that can be singled out to say a group or a race is better at any particular activity. But, as a society we want to use and manipulate science to say one race is superior. The same ‘science’ that proves positive qualities in the dominate race, is used to diminish the equity in the minorities time and hard work in their craft. African Americans are overall known to excel at athletics. White Americans wanted to link race to athletic ability (Adelman and Herbes-Sommers 2003).
Secondly, affirmative action past including rights, women and minorities the rights to vote. Another issue concerning affirmative action is the minorities themselves minorities are very capable of getting the best and higher education and being successful as an white. The only way for this to happen is to lower the diversity on colleges groups and workplaces while affirmative action is not best way going but encouraging the minorities to obtain education is the best way to start them of understanding that we have to accept diversity isn't the issue. Affirmative action developed civil rights in states that are threatened civil rights by giving equal opportunities and educational settings even a workplace to minorities and other races instead of discriminating against them and give them an equal change like the rest that are being able to even have the choice.
