Advertising
According to the American Marketing Association, advertising is, ‘any paid form of non-personal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods or services by an identifiable sponsor’.
Advertising can be a costly promotional tool but, many businesses continue to use it. I have listed the following reasons why a business needs to advertise:
* To create awareness, customer interest or desire
* To boost sales
* To build brand loyalty
* To launch a new product
* To change customer attitudes
* To build the company or brand image
* To remind and reassure customers
* To offset competitor advertising
* To support the sales force
Advertising consist of two main features: the message and the medium.
The message is what you want your communication to say. The medium is how you get your message across to people, e.g. through television or radio. There are three special kinds of advertising: informative advertising, persuasive advertising, and reinforcement advertising. Informative advertising involves raising consumer awareness of the features and benefits of a product. This type of advertising is often used in the beginning of the product life-cycle, or after modification. An example of an informative advertising is, 'The Shopping Centre is closed on 25th
December’. Persuasive advertising involves creating a desire for the product and stimulating purchase. This type of advertising is used to establish more mature products. An example of a persuasive advertising is, ‘Come to the Shopping Centre where you will find bargains galore’.
Reinforcement advertising involves reminding consumers about the product. This type of advertising is used to reinforce the knowledge held by consumer about the benefits, to be gained for purchase. An example of reinforcement advertising is car adverts which focus on the company logo, image and positioning, rather than specific models.
To start an advertising campaign, the business must produce an advertising plan. An advertising plan involves allocating a budget to a range of activities designed to meet advertising objectives. There are five main steps in a well-managed advertising campaign:
1. Setting advertising objectives
2. Set the advertising budget
3. Determine the key advertising messages
4. Decide which advertising media to use
5. Evaluate the result of the advertising campaign

... If any complaints are made by consumers, ASA will investigate the advertisement, and possibly ban it from publication.
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) monitors any advertisements on the radio, on television, and at the cinema. Again, if any complaints are made by consumers, ITC will investigate the advertisement, and possibly ban it in the future.
Advantages of advertising:
* Appropriate for building awareness
* Ability to create images that sales staff cannot
* Effective at reaching a wide audience
* Repetition of main brand or product positioning helps build customer trust
Disadvantages of advertising:
* It is expensive to advertise
* Difficulties in measuring effectiveness
* Difficulties in getting immediate response and action
* Not suitable to getting customers to make a final purchasing decision I have chosen advertising as part of my promotional strategy because, of the fact of when selling a service you need to advertise it to the customers, so that they will know that a new service has been introduced into the marketplace. I will explain why I have chosen this component and how this component will help me achieve my promotional strategy, on pages ( ).
This British ocean liner was one of the biggest cruise ships ever made. The ship began its maiden voyage in the early morning of April 10, 1912 from Southampton, England to New York City. Mainly the ships 2,200 passengers were of deathly upper-class families looking for a good time in the city, while a smaller amount was people going to the city to find work. Many thought that when they board the ship, they were in for the trip of a lifetime. Well, that trip soon ended in tragedy. The Titanic sank early in the morning on the 15th when the ship hit an iceberg. Captain Edward J. Smith had the ship sailing full speed ahead despite the concerns about several icebergs. The ship received multiple warnings about dangerous ice fields in the North over the telegraph. General Corfield who was in charge of warning the captain of any obstacles along the way, said he failed to pass the warning along by senior radio operator, Jack Phillips. The “unsinkable” was actually built with very sinkable cheap material. It was built with low-grade iron rivets instead of the more expensive higher-grade material rivets. These small details easily could have been avoided (history.com
After reading Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, it is clear to see the true horrors behind the entirety of slavery. It is one thing to learn about it from a textbook or to sit through a lecture, but it is a completely different experience to get an account of how grossly inhumane, frightening, and appalling slavery really was from someone who experienced the terrors first-hand. Reading this narrative provided extremely descriptive details of how slaves truly were treated. Douglass recounted the time where he had often:

“To be happy in this world, especially when youth is past, it is necessary to feel oneself not merely an isolated individual whose day will soon be over, but part of the stream of life flowing on from the first germ to the remote and unknown future”
Like the majority of African countries Zimbabwe has a corrupt government which has many problems. The government does not benefit the people at all. The government actually gives a disadvantage to the people of Zimbabwe in many ways. Even though many changes are now taking place in the government in Zimba...
On the morning of April 15th, 1912, the Royal Mail Ship Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean after colliding with an iceberg from the voyage from the United Kingdom to Ney York City. More than 1,500 people died because of the wreck and it is considered the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. At the time, the Titanic was the largest ship afloat and was the second of three Olympic class ocean liners that was operated by the White Star Line and build by Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. On the voyage during the wreck, it carried 2,224 passengers and crew. Edward Smith was in command of the ship’s passengers that included some of the wealthiest persons
The ship's captain was Edward Smith. The Titanic was built in Belfast, Northern Ireland on the spring of 1909, for transatlantic passenger and mail services, it was recorded that 15,000 workers helped in the building of the Titanic, on 14/04/1912 it departed from Southampton, England, heading to New York across the Atlantic Ocean but it went through freezing weather condition with many icebergs owing to human and mechanical errors, along it’s sail, the ship did not succeed in crossing the Atlantic Ocean and it cause many deaths and lot of pain for their families.
The most extravagant ship your mind could possibly fathom still does not compare to the Titanic. The Word titanic even originates from a Greek Mythology word meaning “gigantic”. The Titanic was not built for speed, but built for luxury and size. The boat was commonly called “the unsinkable ship”. The ship’s first voyage was from Southampton in England, to New York in the United States. There were 2,228 people aboard the Titanic, counting passengers and crew members. Unfortunately the boat was only equipped 20 (the legal minimum) life boats, enough for only 1,178 people. No one could have predicted the horrifying events that would happen to “unsinkable ship”.
Before a dictator can expand his power to cover greater areas, he must secure his power generally and take strong action when it is thought to be threatened and/or diminished. For Mugabe, the threat to power is something very common, yet something the president has managed to control for more
This is how Zimbabwe has changed politically, economically, and socially since 1945. Like many other African nations, these changes came after it gained independence from an imperialistic country. Unfortunately, like other African nations, the country was left with a weak economy and government.
We see advertisements all around us. They are on television, in magazines, on the Internet, and plastered up on large billboards everywhere. Ads are nothing new. Many individuals have noticed them all of their lives and have just come to accept them. Advertisers use many subliminal techniques to get the advertisements to work on consumers. Many people don’t realize how effective ads really are. One example is an advertisement for High Definition Television from Samsung. It appears in an issue of Entertainment Weekly, a very popular magazine concerning movies, music, books, and other various media. The magazine would appeal to almost anyone, from a fifteen-year-old movie addict to a sixty-five-year-old soap opera lover. Therefore the ad for the Samsung television will interest a wide array of people. This ad contains many attracting features and uses its words cunningly in order to make its product sound much more exciting and much better than any television would ever be.
This helped secure Malay participation and by doing this also secured the economic role for Malaysia 's indigenous population. This process was twofold. One it marginalized Islamic radicals and two it introduced Islamization program by focusing on public morality, work ethic, and Islamic finance. In summary the UMNO used Islam to socialize the Malay. The case of Malaysia demonstrates what Nasr was referring to in his article, "Rise of Muslim Democracy". In Malaysia the Malay and other indigenous people made up the private sector, as Nasr said the bourgeoisie needs the Muslim democracy and vice versa. Muslim democracy combines religious values of middle and lower class with policies that serve their economic interests. This is exactly what the government had in mind when creating the UMNO, which ultimately used Islam to appeal to the Malay and indigenous people who made up the majority of the middle and lower
Intangibility distinguishes between services and goods. Unlike goods, services have no physical attributes that can be used by the consumers to make judgment. Therefore, the customers cannot imagine what would they get from a particular service. The customers might think of the possible risks that they would encounter if they buy the service. Hence, the service provider must consider enhancing their marketing strategy to convince the customers about their services and reduced the perceived risks.
Television advertisement takes an important part of everyday human's life. Everyday millions of people in America and the world watches Television and advertisements. Television advertisements are very common these days. They appear in public where a lot of people can hear and watch. For example, commercials tend to appear on the radio, foot ball game where a lot of people are watching, and in on television. Advertisement is seen many times especially on television. Television is the most efficient way for business industries to use to take advantage of showing advertisement.
Advertising has been defined as the most powerful, persuasive, and manipulative tool that firms have to control consumers all over the world. It is a form of communication that typically attempts to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume more of a particular brand of product or service. Its impacts created on the society throughout the years has been amazing, especially in this technology age. Influencing people’s habits, creating false needs, distorting the values and priorities of our society with sexism and feminism, advertising has become a poison snake ready to hunt his prey. However, on the other hand, advertising has had a positive effect as a help of the economy and society.
