They need to communicate in a clear and concise way in order for the caller to understand them. There will be situations when the caller will not be able to communicate their problems in an effective way, but the nurse needs to implement their best critical thinking in order to come with an accurate nursing intervention. When nurses provide telecare services nationwide, they need to be aware of the each state licensure and regulations. Nurses need to be informed of the law pertaining to telecare where the patient is. It might lead to persecution for malpractice related to healthcare advice. Lorentz (2008) stated that “Telecare nurses are likely to use the telephone to provide information to patients. Telephonic communication highlights the ethical concern about patient autonomy and privacy (p. 241).” As part of ethical principles all patients have the right to make their own decision concerning their health. But if the tele nurse perceive that the person with whom she is talking does not have the mental capability to understand and to follow advice, as an ethical practice the nurse should document these findings and avoid situations where to influence the patient to make any decision regarding to his or her health condition. Patient privacy is very important. Nurses need to be sure they are talking with the right person and nobody else is listening to the conversation.
