Costs of Assisted Fertilization
Due to everyone’s circumstances being different their testing and treatment recommendations all follow different procedures. Therefore each procedure has different costs from patient to patient. Surgery is often covered by medical aids in South Africa. IVF and other assisted reproduction are NOT covered.
The cost of the fertility treatment done depends on the type of procedure done and the amount of medication needed. Treatment such as artificial insemination costs about R4 000 to R8 000 and for IVF it is approximately R40 000 to R50 000 per cycle.
The success rate is dependent on many factors. The most important factor is the age of the women having the treatment.
In a 25 year old women an IVF cycle may have a 60% success rate compared with a 40 year old women having a 10% success rate with IVF.
