With regards to the reasons for not using social media, most participants would not use social media tools for disseminating sensitive information, company sensitive information and complex or large amounts of data. The participants were concerned about their organisational reputation and putting their organisations at risk if wrong information was shared, they wouldn’t use social media in the workplace due to security concerns. While a few mentioned other social media tools like twitter and facebook that they were too public therefore could not be used in the workplace, there was a downside to using social media for work related issues because of its availability of all the time accessibility, it might encroach on people’s private space. …show more content…

The participants mentioned easy sharing of information without having physical interaction, the speed, its quick and they also mentioned that it was relatively cheap compared to the voice call, instant, more responsive, you can see when message has been read. The fact that social media was immediate and generally there as there was already buy-in from the users showed that the advantages were more visibly beneficial for corporate leadership in the workplace.

The participants saw social media as a good thing that could help to coordinate high level communication in a workplace, very quickly, perfect for communication platform for engaging with employees, which helped with honest feedback, it also helped to contextualise the discussions and to get straight to the point, communication was very efficient. Again the participants reflect how they appreciated social media in the workplace as it brought about positive advantages that helped in effective communication in the workplace.
