Advanced Practice Registered Nurses ( Aprns )

The health care field encompasses many different roles that all provide unique skills and attributes necessary for providing good patient care. Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) have increased in number over the past several years, and are vital for the health care industry to succeed. According to Donelan, DesRoches, Dittus, and Buerhaus (2013), uninsured Americans will be able to purchase health insurance due to the Affordable Care Act, and “the combination of increased demand and provider shortages has led policymakers to consider increasing the supply of nurse practitioners and broadening their roles in the provision of primary care” (para. 1). Additionally, according to Iglehart (2014), APRNs are less expensive, require a shorter period of training, and provide a high degree of care to their patients. Patient satisfaction with APRNs is also growing as more practitioners emerge and effectively manage health services (Iglehart, 2014). With an increasing patient population requiring primary care as well as specialized services, and fewer physicians available to provide patient care, APRNs will continue to be an imperative role for the growing health care system. Implementation of Skills in Practice APRNs are an important part of the health care system, and play a key role in providing patient care in a variety of specialties as well as primary care settings (Chattopadhyay, Zangaro, & White, 2015, para. 2). As an APRN, I hope to work in an orthopaedic clinic with athletes recovering from sports injuries. I want to help patients heal their bodies so they are able to function to their fullest ability. The skills that APRNs possess will aid them in the appropriate assessment and treatment of patients regardless of the area of health care they are working in. When working as an APRN, I want to be able to show Christ’s love to all my patients, by how I interact with them and provide care for them. Regardless of the circumstances of my patients, I will treat everyone with the utmost respect. In addition, in all health care fields, I think educating our patients on treatment and prevention strategies will prove to have a long-term positive effect on patients’ health outcomes. I am very honored and excited that God has given me the ability to be an APRN. I will use my knowledge and skills to further His work and improve the lives of my patients.
