In November, 1923, a German veteran, Adolf Hitler, tried following Mussolini’s example in staging a small coupe in Munich. This coupe failed and Hitler tried seizing Munich but failed and became imprisoned. Within the next decade, Hitler became a legal ruler. Hitler’s rise to power cause questioning, how did this ruthless leader gain the utter support of Germans? The answer to this question is still unknown to this day.
For starters, the Weimar Republic’s Rise and fall was bound to happen. “As World War I (WWI) drew to a close, Germany tottered on the brink of chaos. Under the threat of a socialist revolution, the Kaiser abdicated. Moderate leaders signed the armistice and later, under protest, the Versailles treaty” (Ester, 2010). In 1919, German leaders created the democratic government known as the Weimar Republic, this created by the constitution drafted in the city of Weimar. There were political struggles. Politically, the republic was weak because Germany had many small parties. “They longed for another strong leader like Bismarck” (Ester, 2010). “With help from Western power, the government did bring inflation under control. In 1924, the United States gained British and French approval for a plan to reduce German reparations payments” (Ester, 2010).
Secondly, the Nazi Party rose to Power. “Adolf Hitler was born in Austria, in 1889. When he was 18, he went to Vienna, then the capital of the multinational Hapsburg Empire” (Ester, 2010). When Hitler was living in Vienna he grew an anti-Semistic mindset. In other words, he became extremely prejudice towards Jews. This later played a large role in his rise to power. ...nt but brutal system of totalitarian rule. Nazi’s controlled all areas of German life – from government to religion to education” (Ester, 2010). To work towards building the future, the Nazis indoctrinated young people with ideology. On hikes and in camps loyakty was pledged by “Hitler Youth” to Germany and started to take physical tests and training to enter war.
To conclude, Hitler was a cruel, unusual leader but he got what he wanted to get done finished without problems. Well, after his attempt in seizing Munich failed and he was put in prison that is. Hitler became chancellor legally and within a year became the dictator of Germany. Under his rule Germany underwent change in positive and negative ways, positive in new highways, schools, and housing but negatively because of his harsh ways of leading Germany such as brutally murdering non-loyal citizens.
