Many teachers believe that cell phones don’t belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school. When a cell phone rings in a class, not only does it disrupt the class but it also breaks everyone’s concentration. Students can use cell phones to exchange work or answers in an examination or in a class. Teachers want to see what standard each scholar is at by giving them work and exercises to do, but if they don’t try then they will not get far in life. It is scientifically proven that people over the age of 30 cannot hear high-pitched sounds, so now they’ve deliberately created high-pitched ring tones for teens so that the teachers cannot hear it. Therefore cell phones let the students cheat in exams, bully classmates and call the wrong people. Due to these reason many teachers want cell phones banned in school or to at least enforce a cluster of rules and regulations regarding to the problem On the other hand there can also be advantages to having cell phones in school such as emergency calls. Our parents should be able to feel safe knowing that they can keep a check on their children by calling them up anytime. And they are very handy when students are manoeuvring around or after school, for example afternoon school activities or pick-up times. A parent’s worst nightmare is not knowing where... ... middle of paper ... ...ll cause bullying and harassment. Watters, Audrey. “Why Schools Should Stop Banning Cell Phones, and Use Them for Learning.” Pbs.org. 29 July 2011. Web. 30 Mar. 2014.
Students still use phones during class even though they are not supposed to, but they have reasons why they do it. Students would usually go on if they are done with their assignments. And everyday, students still bring their phones to school, so why can't teachers just let them use it. Students still bring them to talk to people, do research, message people, or to play games. Teachers would tell a student to go read a book or to sit quietly, but the ...
One look at an email can rob someone of 15 minutes of focus and one text message can result in someone blowing off something important, like school. Cell phones should not be allowed at Lindbergh High School. Many people disagree on whether or not cell phones should be allowed, but Monique Conrod speaks out the consequences of phones in an article called Schools Divided Over Cellphones in Classrooms. Ms. Conrod announces, “One of the main reasons, for banning cell phones is that they can distract students from their work… the students admitted they... used their [electronics] for things other than school for more than half the time they were in class” (Conrod). If cellphones are allowed in class, then students will not pay attention to what
There are an abundance of reasons why cell phones should be banned from schools; there are also a great amount of reasons why cell phones should not be banned from schools. One claim is that cell phones should not be allowed in schools. First of all, phones are a distraction to students (Lee). One example of cell phones being a distraction would be, “calling a friend to chat, checking emails or viewing pictures or videos” (Lee). That quote displays that cell phones are used more for fun than for school purposes. Secondly, cell phones should not be allowed at school because it gives the students another way to cheat on exams. An example of cheating could be, “take a photo of the exam, and send the picture to someone for the purposes of cheating”
Phones also allow parents and students to communicate. Students can text their parents or who ever is picking the up and say “where are you picking me up at ?”. Also
As you know students aren't aloud to use phones in school because they are too much of a distraction and kids will always be on their phones instead of listening to the teacher and actually learning at school.
There is more than one side to the debate about the use of cell phones in school. One claim is that cell phones should not be allowed in schools at all. Cell phones are a distraction and and they interfere with education (Lee). Rather than using them only for emergencies, students generally use them for entertainment purposes (Lee). Nowadays, cell phones can be used to email, text, call, and take pictures (Lee). Some students have trained themselves to text without looking at their phone, which makes it harder for teachers to catch them (Lee). Cell phones can also be a safety liability for schools (Lee). In the case of a bomb threat, cell phones can be used to not only call in the threat, but can also be used to detonate a bomb (Lee). In another
In a nutshell, here are some academically beneficial aspects of cell phones and other devices. Most modern devices are capable of remembering complex math theorems and are able to note due dates for assignments. My phone has a "Notes" application, where I conveniently store all of my assignments. So, for those of you who are arguing that there is no reason to have a phone in school, how do you think I get absolutely all of my homework assignments done on time? Another aspect that is advantageous in most cell phones are calculator applications. Rather than spending an additional $100 on a fancy Texas Instruments calculator for Trigonometry or Calculus, I am easily able to access an application on my cellphone that allows me to take advantage of all of the functions that any standard calculator is able to use.
The permission of cellphone devices during school hours could affect a school a lot in many ways. There are many reasons that support this statement. Cellphone have become a great addiction to people in our community these days. People want to take them everywhere and anywhere they go. Schools have been dealing with the problem of whether it should be allowed for students to use cellphones during class time or not. There are many positive effects for this, but most of them are negative. Most students that attend school believe the use of cellphones during school hours should be permitted, but they don't realize how badly this can affect them and their safety. It should not be allowed for students to use cellphones or any other electronic
Firstly, cell phones are a useful object when needed in an emergency. When parents need to contact their kids, they would have access to talk with them on their cell phones. People say "But there's phones in the office", So? What if office staff are out for lunch? What if the emergency happens at their parent’s work place? So, what would they do? Go out and look for them? Cell phones are very useful in that situation! If an emergency happens how would their kids know when to turn their phones on? So, a good comprise would be to turn on your phone and set it on vibrate. Schools should allow cell phones in school for children's protection and safety.
Cell phones are small and portable yet provide so much to its user with being able to look up anything to calling your parents in case of an emergency or if you need to give them a heads up on something. With the way things are today people need to focus on incorporating cell phones into daily life and finding ways to make them more suitable in a classroom environment. Teachers are already doing this though with using apps that work with the whole class and can track data and usage of a student. It cannot be debated that cell phones are beneficial in school as before cell phones you would have to go to your local library and hopefully find what you are looking for. Cell phones belong in a school environment as they can be helpful and it 's a parent 's right to be able to get ahold of their
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. If they have access to their phones all day, then they will be glued to them. Phones are more entertaining than a teacher lecturing at the front of the class. Most students will start to zone out, or fall asleep, when a teacher starts a lesson. It is always easier to focus on something when you are interested in it. For example, it is much easier to remember a song rather than a study guide. Twitter, where kids post what is going on, is more interesting than algebra or biology. Social media is a watering hole out in the safari. Everyone wants to be there, around all of the activity.
