As the class progresses, it is evident how crucial adolescences years are. Both brain and physical development in teens, explains why they’re more likely to engage in risky behavior and react more impulsive (Snowman & McCown, 2015). A character that demonstrates how adolescent brain and physical development affects the adolescence behavior, emotional and social skills (Blakemore, 2011), is sixteen year old Juno MacGuff from the movie Juno. Juno is an independent comedy film, directed by Jason Reitman and was released in 2007. The main character, Juno, experienced various obstacles that showed her as a mature and strategic teenager compared to other teens, particularly when it comes to the decisions that she made, as well as dealing with an …show more content…
Although most teens are usually pressured by their peers to engage in sexual activity (Blakemore, 2011), in this scene Juno seemed very sure with the decision that she made to initiate sex with her friend. This risky behavior may seem absurd to most adults but it’s also important to note that during this stage, teens are more likely to rely on the limbic system to make decisions and solve problem because their prefrontal cortex is still developing (Blakemore, 2011). The limbic system associated with emotions, impulses, aggression and instinctive behavior (Bessant, 2010), which indicates that most teens are more likely to engage in activities that gives off the feeling of doing something fun or taking a risk such as, engaging in sex (Blakemore, …show more content…
Although she didn’t admit it, she still had that child-like fantasy about their being a happy ending especially since she looked up to Vanessa and Mark as the perfect couple. This proved that although she’s been independent and strong from the beginning, she still ultimately a teen and some real life situations that most adult go through like divorce, is complicated for her to understand and deal with. Ultimately, she stood by her promise and still gave her baby to Vanessa although she would be a single
Juno is a movie picture which presents formative stages, clashes, and limitations that one needs to experience amid their developing adulthood. Paul Thompson in the article, “Startling Finds on Teenage Brains”, claims that the youth thinks differently, especially when it comes to them facing criminal charges. Thompson supports his claims by first citing an example of a real case involving a minor. He then cites research from reliable sources as evidence to back up his claim. Lastly, the author investigates the law system’s way of handling the case mentioned previously in the article as a way to leave options open for the viewer. Thompson’s purpose is to convince the audience that though the research given shows that youth suffer brain tissue loss in their teen years, it gives them no excuse for violent behavior so that he can possibly give a well informed side of the argument. The
In the start fo the film, Juno appeared to be just a normal teenager living her own life. There are some little key parts and hints towards her behaviour and how she lives. Even though she is a 16 year old, she still acts like a child in some ways, for example she has a "hamburger phone" which is usally an item that a child would have and use. Another example is that she says things aloud, and shes very stright fowoard in a very childish matter. So during her pregnacy, she started to open up towards a more mature level for her age and started to really see the big world and how it can effect someone including someone such as
Juno is a refreshing movie about a rebellious young woman with a sense of herself and her place in the world. Written by the screenwriter Diablo Cody, the film stands as a corrective to all the mass-marketed teen movies that engage the tired, ideologically destructive story of inhumanity towards girls. Cody paints instead a portrait of a young person whose world is rocked, offering an ironic but warm view of her world’s minor calamities and major achievements. Juno resembles My So-Called Life for the 21st century, as Juno comments in her voice-over on her pregnancy and her plan to give the baby to a childless couple she finds in the local penny-saver. The slightly awkward situations deliver an affectionate, respectful view of a rather ordinary
One of the most complicated puzzles that have faced our society and you, the parents, is that of the teenage brain. The reason that this has been stumping our heads is because this puzzle isn’t even complete. The adolescent brain is developed from back to front creating many complications for their decisions. This both helps and damages us. With this ability, we have an easier ability to learn new things, easier time adapting to our environment, and we seek new thrilling experiences. The ways this hinders us is that we have bad decision making, emotions controlling our decisions, sensitivity to social and emotional information, and the seeking of immediate rewards. Although a teenager’s brain is not fully

...udent left the room to let him think about what she had said. Ten minutes later he brought her a knife and showed her where he had cut his wrist (but not deep) because he no longer wanted to hurt himself and leave those who truly loves him. He made a well thought out and logical decision to live and not let this girl control his life any longer. This student believes this is a good example of applying the information learned and the steps provided by Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford (2012) to create healthy adolescence cognitive development.
For many teenagers having sex with acquaintances it is their first experience. The reasons why they rush into sex may vary, but include peer pressure and a desire to live the experience at once. A recent SexSmarts survey, by the Kaiser Family Foundation and...
With the large amount of sexual content on television, teenagers are shown sexuality in varying situations. Less research has been done on how teens interpret these messages and how it helps shape their view of norm sexual behaviors. While depictions of teens having multiple sexual partners on shows such as 90210, Glee and The Secret Life of an American Teenager may not influence a specific teenager to act accordingly, it could promote an ideal that highlights promiscuousness as the norm. Juno was a popular film where the main character gets pregnan...
The period of adolescence is one of new experiences and encounters. The period of puberty, and the hormonal changes that accompany it, can be quite confusing for most teenagers. Often, this leads to immature and unwise decisions with regard to one’s sexual life and well-being. Even after the age of puberty, lack of knowledge regarding sexual matters can be quite harmful- sometimes even fatal. The rapid spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) across the world has quite aptly illustrated the catastrophic ...

A category of such behaviour is autoeroticism in which an adolescent attempts to gratify his/her sexual urge by carrying out the activities by self and on self. Among such acts are sexual fantasy (a mental exercise involving imagining, mapping, desiring and navigating, in abstract , into sexual pleasure). Masturbation (the manual stimulation of one’s own genital for sexual pleasure), and erotic dreams (an unconscious state especially during sleep when one experiences sensual feeling). Other sexual behaviours that could dispose adolescent to premarital sex include pornographic viewing, kissing and touching (frotteurism). There is no doubt the fact that premarital sex has dire effect on youths. Barker and Rich (1992) identified teanage pregnancy as a major consequence of premarital
