Acupuncture: Treatment for Stress
Acupuncture involves the insertion of tiny needles into "acupuncture points," specific nerve endings under the skin. These needles are extremely small, so small in fact that ten to fifteen acupuncture needles can fit in a regular hypodermic needle (http.//www.acupuncture.com/Acup/Acupuncture.htm).
There are three claims for why acupuncture is effective: reflexes, hormones, and energy transfer. When the needle is inserted into the skin, the nerves send signals that travel up the spinal cord, into the brain, and block the pain center in the brain. This prevents pain and other signals from entering and exiting the brain and severity of the symptoms is suppressed. This allows the body to heal itself while the individual is unaware of any pain or other distress (http://www.acupuncture.com/Acup/Works.htm).
After the needle is inserted into the skin, the surrounding area becomes red. This may be a result of the release of hormones into the bloodstream. These hormones may be the body's natural pain killers, which stimulate blood circulation as well reduce pain (http://www.acupuncture.com/Acup/Works.htm).
The third explanation is the ancient Chinese explanation that the acupuncture points are doors to energy channels and that by inserting the needles into these points, one can open and close these doors. This brings about energy circulation and harbors energy balance, resulting in improved health (http://www.acupuncture.com/Acup/Works.htm).
Acupuncture is believed to be highly effective. In a nation-wide survey of acupuncture users, conducted by Dr. Claire M. Cassidy, 91.5% reported "disappearance" or "improvement" of symptoms after their treatment, 84% see their MDs less often, 79% use fewer prescription drugs, and 70% were able to avoid previously recommended surgery (http://www.acupuncture.com/Acup/AcuStats.htm). Said one man from San Francisco:
Acupuncture had immediate effects on my levels of stress. I simply was not the same person at work. Co-workers could not believe the difference in my disposition. Clients continually comment on my relaxed nature given the stressful environment I have put myself in (CPA, working with taxes). I believe it has helped me stay healthy over the last 9 years... (http://www.acupuncture.com/Acup/AcuStats.htm).
Acupuncture is a treatment with few, if any, reported side effects. The most common side effect is deep relaxation and a slight, temporary heaviness. In the treatment of stress, the side effect of deep relaxation is often a desired result. In these cases, very few side effects are noticed.
Most of the information on acupuncture is circulated by acupuncture therapists and clinics, with one such therapist being Dr.
To understand the ideas of Graham, a realist, it is crucial to understand the two different positions on the existence of mental disorders, realism and anti-realism. Realist justify scientific rationality, or the use scientific information to explain reasons behind fundamental theories. Realism hypothesizes through the use of two claims the reason for the way things are in the world; the evaluation-independence claim and the existence claim. The evaluation-independence claims suggest that objects according to scientific theory, are independent from people, and what people think about them. The existence claim suggests that the objects and all of their properties in fact do exist. Realism basically states that objects (toys, mountains, the sun, the moon etc.) are independent from the social, cultural and linguistic conventions that people tend to administer to them. In regards to mental disorders, this means that realism treats good health as someone having the absence of disease. For a realist, a disease is any type of organism, internal or external that interrupts the normal natural function of a human be...
Acupuncture, like massage, is widely used but the evidence in the form of clinical trials warrants further investigation to overcome the methodological shortcomings of the existing evidence.
In conclusion, when reading a story with a female archetype there is an automatic insertion of the representation of a heroine. The Little Mermaid was honored for her brave acts and her fine qualities she had shown. She represents the lead female character that gave the overall story its true meaning and representation. Throughout the story the Little Mermaid exposed different archetypal characteristics that helped the reader comprehend the concept of the overall theme. Her innocence and the love that she showed saved the Prince’s life and her soul as well. When looking deep into a story, a heroine and her archetypal characteristics can play an essential role.
“[Acupuncture] addresses the root of the problem. . . . Symptoms [are] the way[s] that [the] body [is] trying to tell . . . there’s something wrong . . . That particular symptom takes [the acupuncturist to] the root of the problem. So [the acupuncturist has] to address the root of the problem [in order to] get rid of the symptoms” (Damdin Interview). Due to the integration of the five elements and the meridians, the source of pain may not be the cause of the problem. According to the Generative and Destructive cycles, another organ or meridian may influence the symptoms by overly supporting or excessively restraining the affected part of the body. Therefore, the acupuncturist must fix the cause of the problem in order to relieve the body of the illness. If the cause is not resolved, the illness will persist due to the continuing imbalance which initially caused the health

In this brief book, the presumed author Solomon dictates the idea that everything we do, outside of a God-centered worldview, is futile and unfulfilling. To begin with, there is some debate as to whom the actual author of Ecclesiastes is, but the overwhelming majority of critics deem the authorship of this book to Solomon, King David’s son, based on textual clues. It is also generally accepted that this book was written late in King Solomon’s life based on the text in chapter 12:1-7. Ecclesiastes is similar in style to several Biblical poetic books as well as in context to various ancient Near Eastern texts, which demonstrate that practical wisdom is of little value in the real world. Having been blessed with great wisdom, Solomon would have been a prime candidate to explain the futility of wisdom (Hill & Walton 458-459).
People believe that acupuncture plays an irreplaceable role in alternatives. James Reston, a famous reporter from New York, travelled to china and got his appendix removed in China. He felt uncomfortable after the surgery (Ingraham 2016). The doctor encouraged acupuncture and it turned out his discomfort relived tremendously. it’s the start for the popularity of acupuncture in America. Around 26% of retired soldiers suffer from chronic pain, and it costs 560 billion for taxers’ money. In order to relief pain and decrease money cost,
I would recommend acupuncture for someone as an alternative/adjunctive treatment but not as a replacement. I have my reserves about acupuncture but I do believe that it can ease pain and improve certain bodily functions.
Acupuncture doesn’t allow people to get ahead of themselves like Victor did; the way of thinking brought about is that of a natural sense. The techniques of the alternative medicine allow people to remember how magnificent and sacred the human body is and realize that it cannot be created through lab work or perfected through medicine. With Western medicine, patients can take up to four or five medications before finding one that suits their needs and most can have many life threatening side effects. With acupuncture, it is one procedure and one attempt to heal a patient with NO major side effects. Acupuncture is a unique ancient art that is backed by thousands of years of Chinese thought and research and has been proven affective for many people and their illnesses.
Traditional Eastern medical practices such as acupuncture have long been used in the East to unblock stagnant energy in the body that may cause the symptoms of conditions such as depression. The philosophy behind acupuncture is rooted in the Daoist tradition which goes back over 8000 years. The people of this time would meditate and observe the flow of energy in the universe. Acupuncture adds value here as an effective alternative
Acupuncture is considered to be a new alternative medicine in western society, and has recently become very popular in the United States (“All About Acupuncture”). Acupuncture is the insertion of hair-fine needles into the body’s surface, which is supposed to cause psychological effects on the body to cure the patient of an illness. These illnesses may be emotional mental or physical (Singer). But some doctors question the validity of this practice, and believe that acupuncture may be unsafe (Barrett).
According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture is useful in treating different ailments including a stomach virus, cancer, migraines, skin diseases, infections, childbirth, gout and many others. So the next time you consider canceling an appointment with an acupuncturist, think again. You might miss a much better approach to treating your illness than you thought!
Acupuncture has been a facet of Chinese medicine for thousands of years. More recently Western society has embraced the concept of acupuncture, and it is easier than ever to find a practitioner in most cities. The benefits of acupuncture range from headache relief to weight loss. Acupuncture may be a good choice for alternative or complementary treatment for these and many other conditions.
40 years ago;10 In 1971, New York Times reporter James Reston had an emergency appendectomy in Beijing, China under acupuncture anaesthesia. After his surgery, he received acupuncture and it significantly reduced his post surgical abdominal pain.11 Upon his return to the U.S., he published his experience of acupuncture and it sparked interests amongst U.S. physicians on acupuncture's analgesia properties. Since then, continued research has been conducted to learn more about the benefits of acupuncture in pain management and various conditions. In 1972, Major General Walter R. Tkach, former President Nixon's physician, observed the practice of acupuncture while on a trip in China with Nixon. When he returned to the U.S., he published the article “I watched Acupuncture Work” in the July 1972 issue of Readers Digest.12 It was not until then that acupuncture had begun to gain
Medical professionals use various practices to help provide relief for their clients. Physiotherapy and Acupuncture are quite commonly believed to be both appropriate forms of effective medical practices. Physiotherapy is considered a western scientific medicine that uses different methods to relieve pain (Physio Tauranga, n.d.). Whereas, traditional acupuncture uses needles to pin point the certain areas of the body. While these medicines use different techniques, have different side effects, and have different financial costs both of these recommended medicines provide similar results, however physiotherapy is more efficient.
