Wild Ride
Can you imagine being thrown from a car at 30mph? Well, I never thought I could until this happened to me in the summer of 1999.
It was a gorgeous June afternoon, and summer had just begun. I had just gotten my license, and I couldn’t wait to go cruisin’ in my parents new yellow Ford Expedition. I had spent the day at my friends house, and now I was on my way home. I was almost home, I just had to turn onto the gravel road to get to my house. While I was turning, I was trying to put in a mix CD I had just made, and trying to turn the corner at the same time. I guess I was going a little too fast, because all of a sudden, I found myself lying in the ditch, outside of my truck. I had the bitter taste of blood in my mouth.
I slowly got up on one leg and struggled up to the road. There was an old white pickup coming down the road and I waved it down. It was a farmer and he called an ambulance on his cell phone. While we were waiting for the ambulance I was hysterical. I couldn’t move or feel my left arm or leg. I felt like I was going to pass out from the pain in my broken limbs. The farmer did everything he could think of to calm me down a little bit. He asked me questions about family, school, and pretty much anything he could think of. I learned all about his wife, and his family; his grandkids, and even their grandkids. Eventually, after what seemed like three hours waiting for the ambulance, it finally got there. The paramedics rushed out, and loaded me into the wailing vehicle.
The whole way to the hospital they asked me questions about my injuries and on what I remember about the incident. The pain was almost unbearable, so I told enough of what they wanted to hear, just so they’d shut up. They put my arm and leg in splints and finally gave me something for the pain. After about 15 minutes in the ambulance we got to the hospital and they hauled me into the X-ray room and took X-rays of my arm and leg. They found out that my forearm bone and the bone under the bicep was broken in my left arm and that I had broken my fibula in my left leg.
I was shaking when we went inside--- I absolutely hate the doctors office! There was only one people waiting to be seen; with a face mask on hoping not to spread the possible air borne disease, and the others who were just sitting there waiting for perhaps friends or family members to come out. They checked me in and gave me a madatory blue bracelet to wear. In no time I was rushed in a wheel chair to the CAT scan machine. I was alone in the room which was over fifteen minutes sitting inside a large machine with flourescent lights and heat directly over my head. Slowly the lady wheeled me back to my checked in room. The doctor waiting with instant news, he announced I had no internal bleeding in my head which was the only good news I would be getting that day. I slowly wake up, and it must have been hours later. I looked down and my leg was gone. I could feel a searing pain rush through my body. My leg was bandaged up around the cut, but I could still imagine how it looked. Blood was dripping from the bandages. I could not take it anymore. Right there I shut my eyes, and never again were they opened. My family was traumatized at my death.
I woke up my dad and told him that it was already light outside. He jumped out of bed and said we had to go. I went outside and started up the truck while my dad was getting dressed. When I opened the door to the trailer I noticed clear blue skies and a light frost that covered the ground. I jumped in the driver's seat of the 1990 white GMC Sierra, pushed in the clutch, and turned the key. The truck hesitated for about ten seconds and then started. I turned on the defroster and the windshield wipers so we wouldn?t have to scrape the frost.
My dad explained to me that my femur was broken and that I have to wear a cast until it heals. But something was not right in my leg, I felt it, it still hurt like it was out of place. My dad took me to the doctor and told him that the surgery that was done to me was not right, the bones didn’t connect to each other. They had to perform two more surgeries on my leg to make it right. One surgery to take the bone out from where it was and other one right way to connect it and to let it heal

Nevertheless, the brave young men that fought to defeat communism went to Vietnam, some willing, and some not so willing as the Selective Service Act gave them no choice but to serve. James Joyce’s Dubliners is a collection of short stories that narrates the negativity of life, but the story that is the most successful in its narration is “Eveline”. All through “Eveline”, Eveline’s alienation to the outside world is present. She never converses with anyone outside of her family or business negotiations: “few people passed. The man out of the last house passed on his way home; she heard his footsteps…” (Joyce 36). The story begins with Eveline resting near the window and listening to people pass by, instead of interacting with them. By choosing to begin the story this way, James Joyce symbolizes Eveline’s alienation to the outside world; he eliminates Eveline’s opportunity to interact with the people on the other side of the window, by confining her in her room. This act of confinement that alienates Eveline from the outside world becomes the one of the main focus of the story; rather than being confined in her room, Eveline is confined in her life. She is alienated from the outside world because of the events in her life. She goes to work every day “to keep the house together and to see that the two young children … got their meals regularly” (Joyce 380) – that is her main focus. She...
As Jane allows the reader to be privy to her innermost thoughts, she illustrates a self that cannot be accessed, a sort of ungovernable otherness that is blocked by her outer persona. Gilbert and Gubar write in The Madwoman in the Attic that maddened doubles function as asocial surrogates for docile selves (xi). Bertha Mason, on the other hand is the uncontrollable other of Jane’s compliant exterior, and functions as Jane’s surrogate. To be considered a proper lady at this time, women were expected to be passive and doll-like. What Jane cannot express as a woman trying to fit into the mould, Bertha embodies without constraint (Gilbert and Gubar, 319). Bertha is the picture of passion, she is femininity out of control, she is mad with ungovernable excitement. Bertha is the gothic lunatic, who functions as the more demure heroine’s double, breaking from the constraints of society. Bertha’s subversive behavior, as well as foreign race, represents a woman who is atypical of the society that surrounds her. Therefore, Bertha is seen as unmanageable, and villainized for outwardly expressing her inner rage. Emily Grierson disregards convention in Faulkner’s short work in ways that depict her as a monstrous female as well. Imagine the pain while bleeding internally for hours, lying in a twisted metal coffin. You have to assume that help will not arrive in time to save your life. Now imagine, what would you do?
When I was at school I broke my wrist. My friends and I were playing on the slide and I fell off into the dirt and landed on my wrist. When I heard “crack”, I knew something was wrong and needed to go tell the teacher. Holding my wrist I ran to Mrs.Kathy and told her that something was wrong with my wrist. We ran to the nurse because she thought it was severely damaged based on the way it was dangling. An ice pack was put on my wrist to control the swelling. My dad was given a phone phone call and was told that I had hurt my self on the playground. Rushing from work my dad was to coming get me and on the way he picked up my brother from high school, they later arrived at the elementary school. We hastily went to the emergency room because my wrist was getting sizeably larger. By the time we achieved our destination, my mom was waiting patiently for us.
As Newton’s first law, “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.” The passengers and the car will keep moving at the same speed until an external force by car accident. When the car crashes into the objects, the passengers still keep on moving at the original speed because of inertia, which leads to lots of casualties. In the late 1930s there was no reliable data on how the human body responds to the sudden, violent forces acting on it in an automobile accident. Furthermore, no effective tools existed to measure such responses.
The ambulance people leave after they get me out of the stretcher and into a bed but are quickly replaced by ER nurses. One of them takes my neck brace off because I don’t need it. The she asks me to look at the chart on the wall and rate my pain. I say two because it looked like a step up from normal, but not too far away for anyone to worry. Soon they leave and another nurse comes in and asks my name, age, and date of birth, then tells me to press a button if I need anything then she waltzes out in a blur.

With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
I jumped out of the car with my two sisters and ran to the bathroom. When we left the bathroom, we walked back to the car. We saw that our dad was still putting gas in the car, so we went into the store to buy some sweets. I bought “warheads” that said extremely sour, and a bag of chips called “baked with fire” that looked like they would taste really hot. When we purchased our food, we walked back to the car. As soon as we started driving, I opened my bag of chips. I was so scared that they would be extremely hot. For that reason, I also bought a bottle of water. I opened it before I took a bite out of the chip. Luckily, they were not hot at all! I grabbed my sour candy and tasted it. My face changed so quickly; that I started to squint my eyes and point my lips. I could not take another bite of it because it was really sour! Eventually, I was not hungry anymore. Probably because I ate my whole bag of chips and a sandwich. When I finished eating, I was feeling exhausted, so I took a long nap. I woke up, and dad told me that we only needed to drive for one more hour. While we were driving through town, we saw a row of trees on fire! It was so smoky that we could barely see the street we were driving on. I felt scared for life and terrified that we might crash. After a few more minutes of driving, the smoke cleared up and we could see again. Finally, the hour passed and we arrived in California. Mrs.
