What is literature? It is writing that conveys meaning and ideas after analyzation. Great forms of literature can entertain for generations and still be relatable. Allowing people to express himself and spread their morals through the written word. One special quality that good literature has is that the deeper you go into a book the more meaning you pull out. Throughout the course of the freshman year we read three novels, The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Monkey Bridge. This three form of literature after reading, and analyzing them, helped us better understand yourself, and the world. The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, is about a high schooler trying to get away from his futureless culture. Although the book was an easy, amusing read, filled with pictures, and funny captions. Portraying the hopelessness of the Native American people, his culture, in his eyes. It is not just a book but a way of communication and think. This three book show that, each giving the reader a new perspective on the world. In The Absolute True Diary of a Part- Time Indian, reader learns who hard Native Americans have it, it also give a moral of hard work and determination. In to kill a mockingbird, your learn how destructive prejudices can be. It also show how far we have come in the few years, and how if we keep progressing maybe one day there will no “racism” or “sexism”. And final Monkey Bridge opened people eye on how hard it si for immigrants coming to america, it make some think twice before assuming things when you do not know the full story.
