Abraham Lincoln is one of popular presidents in United States History. With his face on pennies, five-dollar bills, saving bonds, and his name placed on hotels, cars, toys and streets it’s almost impossible to grow up as a kid in America without hearing the name Lincoln. In the recent decades Lincoln enthusiast have been trying to discover the real Lincoln, trying to decipher myth from reality. Lincoln was considered to be, “the last great leader before industrial change, (because) Lincoln stood for all that was right, honest, and self evident.”(Phillips). As a poor kid growing up he looked up to the founding fathers, and became fascinated with America and the idea of individual rights. After several failed attempts to get into the White House, it almost seemed as if Abraham Lincoln wasn’t meant to become President of the United States. Abraham Lincoln did not originally appear to be a leader that would successfully lead a country during a time of great need. However in office, Lincoln proved to be a masterful commander and chief during the Civil War, which propelled him to the status of an American Legend.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Hardin Kentucky. His father Thomas Lincoln was a carpenter and farmer who was always very poor. Both of his parents were members of a Baptist congregation which had split from another church because of its views against slavery. This is where Abe first developed his own opposition to slavery. When Abe was nine the family moved to Spencer, Indiana, and his mother Nancy died from milk sickness.
Abraham Lincoln was an intelligent man who will always be remembered. He was born on February 12, 1809 in Kentucky. Lincoln suffered from depression because of the series of painful events and deaths in the family. After reading Abraham Lincoln by James McPherson, he was a man who worked extremely hard for what he believed in Abraham wanted to abolish slavery as a whole because his hatred towards it. He invested his time as his position as president, focusing on the parties and working hard with the military. As the 16th president, he accomplished freeing slaves, fighting the confederacy, and bringing the country together. Abraham Lincoln was an exceptional man who led to an exceptional life.

birth to a boy. He was born on a bed of poles covered
with corn husks. The baby was named Abraham after his
grandfather. In 1811 the Lincolns moved to a farm on
Knob Creek which was also near Hodgenville.

When he was in office he was mostly occupied with the states that broke away from the Union,who was named the Confederate States of America. Followed within two months by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas.the american civil war took place from 1861 to 1865. the war started when the southern states seceded from the northern states and formed the confederate states of America led by confederate president Jefferson Davis. the union was led by president Abraham Lincoln the south began to seceded from the north after Abraham Lincoln was elected president and was trying to abolish slavery and for all. the american civil war started on April 12, 1861 at the battle of fort Sumter where the confederates first attacked trying to take fort Sumter from union possession led by Pierre Beauregard. president Lincoln responded to this by rounding up union soldiers to send in to take back the fort from the confederates. this starts the beginning of one of Americas bloodiest wars in history. the civil war is know as

His mother had died recently of a disease and his father eventually remarried. While growing up, his nature was that of someone who wanted to learn and read rather than help with the farm.

The Fiery Trial
During and following the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln is widely known as the Great Emancipator. This title, however, has been the subject of much controversy, and many people believe he does not rightly deserve it. But there does not seem to be enough support for this argument, and there are many reasons why he should maintain the nickname.
