Right now, thousands of women face a life changing decision, whether to follow through with a pregnancy or going through the process of abortion. An abortion is the process of removing an unborn offspring, known as a fetus, from the woman’s uterus in order to terminate the pregnancy. The confrontational topic is divided between the views of pro-life and pro-choice. Advocates for pro-life strongly believe that the unborn baby should be protected. Whereas, pro-choice supporters believe the decision of what happens to the unborn baby is completely a right of the woman.
(BPAS) This on going feud of abortion has many sides which results in many different views. Abortion should be made illegal because it is inhumane with exceptions of the mother or baby being at risk. When abortion is talked about many things may come to mind such as ethical reasoning’s, religious views, problems and risks, what ifs, and options. The many problems make it a very heated topic that everyone has an opinion on. But first you must understand that in reality, abortion wi... ... middle of paper ... ...K. The second category of abortion is the abortion pill. This pill is called Mifepristone, it is taken within the first 9 weeks of pregnancy. I know many people say that it is a woman’s choice to have an abortion, after all having a baby dramatically impacts her life, but I’m not asking you to think about the woman’s rights, I’m asking you to think about the child’s rights that were never given to it. “How many more women will be exploited, injured or killed by abortion? More than 4,000 women choose to abort every day. That’s about 1.5 million abortions each year.” (lovematters.com). First, abortion has physical and emotional side effects on the birth parents especially the mother, and on society, for example, some of the physical side effects are: feeling abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, damage to the uterus and other organs, infection, fever, bleeding, and might lead to death. (American Pregnancy Association).
That’s approximately 1.4 million abortions performed annually. The topic of abortion has also made the nation politically divided, as a result of many see abortion as killing a child, while the other side of the debate, many see it as it is the woman’s right to choose if she’s ready for a child or not. I personally feel that no matter what gestational age the fetus and or child may be, anesthesia should be given to relieve the pain, if any, to the fetus. Although abortion has been the center of frequent arguments, the question remains if the child endures the pain during the abortion procedure. Banning abortion, put women at a higher risk of going out and finding illegal way to have the procedure done (“Abortion Information” 1). Once abortion became illegal in the United States 1.2 million abortions were preformed illegally. Dangerous attempts have been made by women to preform their own abortion, or have them done by unskilled surgeons often with dangerous instruments and sometimes in unsanitary conditions. Serious complication from unsafe abortion included, “perforations of the uterus, retained placentas, severe bleeding, cervical wounds, and rampant infections” (Currie 17.) Abortion has become safer over the years and should be legalized in every state in the United States; abortion should also be kept private between the client and doctor.
As liberals would say, a fetus at very early stages is not a human life. Therefore, if the woman wants an abortion, she is not harming anyone in the process; in fact, she is most saving herself from going through all this trouble of taking care of the baby. Many young girls should have the right to an abortion if they are not financially stable.
