In the United States, the issue of abortion is extremely controversial that matters to not only medical field but also political and social fields. Pro-life (illegal abortion) advocates state that; life begins at conception, so the fetus is entitled to have a full human right to live; abortion is a crime of murder; women should use contraceptives in the means of preventing pregnancies; abortion increases the likelihood of future side-effects. On the other hand, pro-choice (legal abortion) advocates argue that; it is women’s rights to control their own bodies without any interference; abortion does not kill a baby, but just ends a pregnancy; modern abortion is safe because it is performed by professions in a safe setting; women who choose abortion do not have ability to raise children. These two sides over the issue are strained since long time ago. However, again, v... ... middle of paper ... ...ational Library of Medicine, Spring 2009.
Is abortion right? Should it be legal? The arguments and laws for abortion have been going on since the early eighteen hundreds. Some people believe that the woman having the baby should be able to choose to have an abortion or not. More arguments arose about when a fetus was considered a baby and, if legal, when is abortion appropriate.
It is only fair to say that women should be given the same choice. If one does not want to hold the responsibilities of a child then she should be able to have the choice of abortion in her options. Because contraceptives fail, and because they are ... ... middle of paper ... ...e if they were not conceived. In summary, a woman's right to choose can justify abortion, but it should be banned because it is immoral and life begins at conception. Women have been given the right to have an abortion under the United States Constitution, but the people that fight for the unborn child's rights are still protesting this right. Pro-life activists claim that it is immoral because it is simply defined as murder.
The debate of abortion still holds strong today, between Pro-Life and Pro-Choice, almost 40 years since the Supreme Court ruling. Abortion is classified in two points of views: Pro-Choice supporters and Pro-Life advocates. Roe vs. Wade should be overturned to make the act of receiving an abortion illegal to protect the lives of the unborn children. Pro-Choice deeply supports the installment of the right for women to have abortions. Pro-choice is founded on the idea that women hold the basic rights to their own body, and they should be able to do whatever they desire.
Abortion is probably one of the most controversial issues in the United States today. The laws and ideas behind abortion are argued by both sides. Someone who is pro-life believes it is all up to the mother when it comes to making the decision if the baby is going to die or not. People who are pro-choice believe that under certain circumstances abortion is permissible, which I would have to agree with. In these next few paragraphs I will explain the different laws that the government has put in place for both pro-life and choice.
Since the early 1970’s abortion has been an important issue to the United States (Tietze 1). The problem begins with whether it is the woman’s choice to keep or terminate her pregnancy or the government’s choice. When this problem happens, a woman loses her right as a person. Most women argue about this issue, but if you look at it, it is the woman’s body, and she should do with it as she pleases. I believe that if a woman, under the right circumstances, should be able to make her own choices in life and not be influenced by family or the government.
The people that are for abortion may say every woman has a choice whether or whether not to have an abortion. Abortion should be legal because it reduces the crime rate and makes it safer for women. (Donohue, John) Abortion should be legal because if a woman is sexually abused by their husband, a family member, or even by a stranger, she may or may not want to live with what her sexual abuser has done to her. The woman only option left may be abortion because she may think abortion is the only way out. Others may think it would be better if the woman carrying the fetus should carry the fetus to full term and just give the baby up for adoption instead of turning to adoption for a way out.
Abortion Women may have an abortion for a variety of reasons, but in general they choose abortion because a pregnancy at that time is in some way wrong for them. “Abortion is the removal of a fetus from the uterus before it is mature enough to live on its own” (Kuechler 1996). When this happens spontaneously we call it a miscarriage. Induced abortion is brought about deliberately by a medical procedure that ends pregnancy. Legal abortion, carried out by trained medical practitioners, is one of the most common and safest surgical procedures.
Varying by case, murdering a pregnant women results in two separate counts for murder, but doesn’t that prove that the unborn fetus has human rights just like the mother? The question that comes with that situation is, “When does life begin?” People can’t expect for a murderer to be charged with two separate counts of murder when killing a pregnant lady, but allowing abortions to simply be a parenthood decision with no consequence from the law. The problem that comes with having abortions is that the supreme court has ruled it to be a fundamental law for a women to have the right to abort her unborn child. In the court case Roe. vs. Wade a 7-2 decision was made that the right of privacy is broad enough to encompass a woman 's decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.
However, others feel that a woman should have a voice and have the right to choose to keep the child or not and that it is not murder until the baby is born. Majority of individuals who believe that abortion is bad say that the fetus is human who is partly being formed and to have an abortion is considered to be murder. For the people who think an abortion is ok, say that it’s not considered murder unless the child is born. I believe that abortion should be seen in which the stage the fetus is in. if the fetus is in an early stage of pregnancy it is not considered murder, but if the fetus has already began to develop into a larger fetus then it is indeed considered to be murder.
