Abortion: The Case of Rove v. Wade

It’s been a major social issue since the 1970’s and the case of Roe v. Wade. Over the years, abortion has been argued from both standpoints, for the unborn babies and against the denying of women’s rights to control their own bodies. Though some say it should be legal, the act of abortion should be illegal because the process can be considered murder, people take advantage of the option and abuse the system, and it can be a health risk to a woman’s body.
One of the largest and most upsetting problems with abortion is that it can be classified as murder. The baby technically starts life after conception where he or she can be considered a person. The “right-to-life statute” states that a baby is considered a person by conception therefore making abortion murder (Kolb 1123). At this point in life, the baby has no say in whether or not it lives or dies, therefore denying his or her rights, denying him or her of a chance to be someone. By denying the baby life, one is also denying the society the potential life contributions of the future child (ProCon.org).
Also, protecting the unborn is the 14th Amendment that offers the “protection of life” (Kolb 1123). Work with the right-to-life statute that claims an unborn baby as a person, the 14th Amendment says no one, including a fetus, should be denied their equal rights. The big question concerning the idea of the fetus as a person under the protection of these laws is the point at which a fetus becomes a person. With a movement in 2008 called the Personhood Movement, an amendment was proposed to the Supreme Court seeking the protection of the rights of a person who was formed at the moment of conception (Will 575). Jonathan Will, in the American Journal of Law and Medicine, says tha...

In the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, David Reardon and Philip Ney hypothesized that though abortion may increase the abuse of alcohol and drugs, not having an abortion may decrease that same risk of abuse. They said that, by having an unplanned pregnancy, the responsibilities as a parent that follow the birth of the baby can reduce the risk of substance and/or alcohol abuse (Reardon and Ney 72).
Abortion is a major topic that many have very different views on, but nothing is okay about the murder of innocent children those children who haven’t had a chance to live yet, to grow, to learn. Abortion isn’t just about murder; abortion involves many different complications. It can be harmful to the mother, her health, and the psychological health of the father. Abortion doesn’t just affect one person; it affects all of the people involved.
