One of the most controversial situations in the United States is abortion. A couple of decades ago when abortion was illegal, thousands of woman died for attempting to terminate the child’s life themselves or with unprofessional help. On January 22, 1973, in the Roe v. Wade case, Supreme Court legalized abortion in all 50 states. This has saved thousands of woman’s lives and should remain legal.

There are different definitions for this issue. “Abortion is the forcible removal of a developing baby from the womb of his or her mother sing surgical, mechanical or chemical means.” (“Abortion” par. 3) Medical definition says that abortion is any termination of pregnancy before 20 weeks. Therapeutic abortion is a termination of pregnancy by the intervention of a physician through surgery or the use of RU-486 (abortion pill) or some other medications. A human pregnancy is usually divided into three trimesters. Each trimesters lasts normally three months. An embryo is a stage of prenatal mammalian development which lasts from 2 to 8 weeks. Fertilization is the penetration of an ovum by a single sperm. A fetus is a stage of prenatal mammalian development which extends from 9 weeks after fertilization. Miscarriage is the interruption of pregnancy prior to the 7th month, usually used to refer to an expulsion of the fetus which starts without being induced by medical intervention. About a quarter of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage. An ovum is the mature sex cell generated by females in an ovary.

Even though abortion is critized by many religious organizations, abortion should remain legal in the U.S. It allows women to choose their destiny and prevents unwanted children. Anti-abortionist wants to save a humans life, but that means they must save a life of any organism. Yet, they don’t do that. Their arguments are a contradiction. Today, abortion has been safer than it’s ever been and as technology keeps growing, women have a better chance for healthier lives. Such as the RU-486 abortion pill, has allowed abortion to be much safer. Every life must be a wanted life, if not it can cause problems in a woman’s life and a society. The Bible clearly supports abortion. Everyone has a right to their own morals and values. A woman has to right to choose if she wants to continue a pregnancy or not.
