The topic of abortion is one of the most controversial issues in today’s society. Thousands of abortions take place every single day, and yet public opinion remains at a standstill as to whether or not abortion is ethical or not. According to a poll in 2013, fifty-four percent of the American public believes that the practice of abortion should be legal in all or most cases (“Public Opinion on Abortion”) Abortion has been defined as “the act of removing a human embryo or fetus from the uterus of a pregnant woman prior to the completion of the full term of pregnancy”(Rich, Wagner, and Geraldine). There are very strong opinions for and against this issue, but no one can deny the vast gray area of abortion. A person’s stance on the situation is often determined by how he views the fetus: a part of the mother’s body or as a human being.
Abortion, which is defined as a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, is one of the most controversial issues in society. Many people believe that abortion is unethical and morally wrong, while others believe that it is a woman’s right to decide what to do with her body. According to www.census.gov, “the number of abortions performed annually in the U.S. has leveled off at 1.2 million a year” (1). This statistic supports how many women are choosing abortion. Although abortion is legal in the United States, many people continue to voice their opinions on how it is a human rights violation and should be illegal everywhere.
The following will tell people everything they need to know about abortion, and why it should be illegal. An abortion is the act of removing a human embryo or fetus. A woman can only be under twenty-four weeks pregnant in order to have an abortion. If the woman is over twenty-four weeks pregnant she cannot have an abortion, because after twenty-four weeks the baby is already starting to grow and produce. Abortion is a very serious situation, one out of four women goes through with an abortion; most of these women are under the age of eighteen.
The second category of abortion is the abortion pill. This pill is called Mifepristone, it is taken within the first 9 weeks of pregnancy. I know many people say that it is a woman’s choice to have an abortion, after all having a baby dramatically impacts her life, but I’m not asking you to think about the woman’s rights, I’m asking you to think about the child’s rights that were never given to it. The woman had a choice, not to ha... ... middle of paper ... ... famous words, “Even though you can't see them or hear them at all, a person’s a person. There is no denying that abortion exist . Approximately 3,700 unborn babies are aborted daily in the United States ( Abortion Facts). Hospitals all over the country allow women to leave the baby with them if they do not want to keep it. There are many families that can not conceive a child, and wish to have child. Aborting is somewhat selfish, in the ways that a child could be saved, given up for adoption or left at the hospital to be put in a good home.
