In 1994 AT&T decided to bring the work to the worker, not the worker to the work. They created an alternative workplace (AW). Around 32,000 of their employees worked at home. AT&T was trying to see how far a company of their size and stature could go. AT&T was not the only place to try this. Some 30 million to 40 million employees in the United States work at home or are telecommuters.
There are many reasons why companies change to an AW. First it reduces cost by a lot. AT&T for example has freed up some $550 million, which is a 30% improvement, by freeing up office space, and by reducing overhead costs. Another reason is that it causes a great potential for productivity. Employees that work in the AW tend to concentrate on the customers needs instead of their usual office routine. It is proven that productivity goes up by using an AW. AW programs by establishing home offices are helping to create and receive more government incentives and avoid having to pay expensive government sanctions.
There is a vast assortment of AW being used in the workplace. One is the shared desk arrangement where many people share a desk. This arrangement creates more space. Another option would be changing from a traditional office space into a openplan space. In this design team rooms and other workstations are put in the open areas. Hoteling is a designed workplace that is furnished, equipped, and set up with all the office needs. These places are reserved by the hour, or by day, or by week, instead of one having the workplace for all of the time. Satellite offices are another innovative form of alternative workplace.
Throughout Act one, Nora’s most noticeable characteristic is her child like personality and her inability to understand the importance of honesty. As the play opens on Christmas Eve Nora comes home with an abundance of extravagant gifts for her family. She also eats some macaroons that she secretly bought that her husband doesn’t allow her to eat. When questioned about the purchase of the dessert by her husband Torvald Helmer, she denies it. Through this act of deception we are able to see that Nora, in denying buying and eating the macaroons is more like a child to her husband. In a normal husband-wife relationship, the wife would have admitted that she did in fact eat them due to the fact that they are on an equal playing field. In this case, Nora was scared to tell him in fear that she will be punished and get in trouble. The deception allows us into Nora’s mind to see that she hasn’t yet understood that if she stand up for herself and says that she did, that with time Torvald will stop treating her like one of his children but instead like the mother and wife that she is. Erickson went through role confusion before he could figure out his true identity. When becoming an adult, Intimacy vs. Isolation, the sixth stage appears. According to Erikson, this stage can only arise if one is able to find their identity in the previous stage. This is where people begin to explore relationships with other in search of a long-term commitment such as marriage. Avoiding commitment and intimacy can lead to depression or simply a life without one consistent person. Erikson’s seventh stage is Generativity vs. Stagnation which is finally bringing your life together by having children and a stable job. Without these expected accomplishments, one may feel like they haven’t done anything with their lives. The eighth and final stage of Erikson's stages of psychosocial development is Ego Integrity vs. Despair. At the age of about 65, one tends to reflect on their life, and what they have accomplished. If satisfied, wisdom is gained and death is accepted with no fear. Erik Erikson’s Psychosocial Stages of Development consist of eight stages we encounter as we develop and grow. After successfully resolving an emotional crisis within a stage, we then proceed to the next one. Erikson believed that human development covers the entire lifespan, rather than ending during adolescence. If we are unable to resolve the crisis during any one stage, either due to a personal or environmental factor, it would prohibit us from moving on.

In Hamlet Ophelia is controlled by her father Polonius who is trying to igain more insight into Hamlet’s behavior. Polonius uses Ophelia as a pawn in his schemes to involving his investigation Hamlet’s craziness. She has no opinions or say in his plans. Polonius uses the advantage of having a daughter to try to investigate Hamlet. He tells Claudius the king about his plan “I have a daughter- have while she is mine-Who in her duty and obedience, mark” (Scene 2 Act 2). Polonius suggests to the king that they should use her to try to learn more about Hamlet’s crazy behavior. Polonius does not consult Ophelia about his plan because he is the head of the family and it is her duty to obey her father. Polonius shows his dominance over her, she cannot argue with him about being involved because she is inferior to him. Polonius asserts himself as a dominant male figure in her life. He controls, and manipulates her for his own personal gain. Polonius formulates Ophelia’s behavior and her opinions through his manipulation and his dominance over her. She becomes a pawn in the king and his schemes and is not able to assert herself as a character with opinions ...

Ophelia has been plotting for the throne for a long time. Her father, Polonius is the king’s trusted advisor and her brother Laertes is a soldier. Ophelia’s mother died when she was very young. Polonius insists she is the spitting image of her mother. Laertes is often away and only receives update letters from his father in which he praises Ophelia. Ophelia loves her father dearly but she is most focused on becoming queen.
Erikson 's (1963) eight stage model of psychosocial development poses that development continues across the lifespan and does not cease after adolescence as other theorists, like Sigmund Freud, suggests. Progression through each of this model 's eight stages requires resolution of a corresponding crisis. Upon successful resolution, the individual gains certain strengths and can progress on to the next stage. It is in this model that the crisis of late adulthood, as discussed above, is identified: where the individual faces acceptance of his/her life and gain integrity, or its opposite, despair, over the inability to relive that life (Erikson, 1963). The prospect of a life coming to a close may be daunting and difficult to accept, as life-review entails the resurfacing of memories and unsettled conflicts of the past (Lurie & Monahan, 2015).
