Reflecting back on the course I would say that unit 3 and 4 was the most useful. Articulating Your Vision and Plan in unit 3 made me put everything into perspective on what is expected of me as professional and student of Capella University. Although I still struggle with APA formatting in text citation, I assert that with constructive feedback, exposure to APA, repetition with discussions and essays, it has helped my tremendously. I am more confidence of my writing and learning how to cite with fewer mistakes. Using, “The Publication Manual of American Psychological Association” and Purdue OWL as my guide for writing as been a great tool.
Scholarly writing and what it entails I can identify as the most useful information that I came leaving
Some of the papers that I wrote throughout the course were mostly things that I felt very close to and loved. Whether it'd be sports, family, or friends, I always had something to write about. For how often I chose these topics, I always learned something from them too. Like with the Red Cross, over 95% of the workers there are volunteers that want to help out those in need after natural disasters.
My English 1310 course was taught by Professor Daniel Stuart. He taught us the concept of academic writing and why it is important. Academic writing is the process of down ideas, using a formal tone, deductive reasoning and third person. Writing done to carry out the requirements of a college or university on a research based level. It requires a starting point or introduction, followed by a thesis on the preferred topic, then comes proving and disproving of the evidence based arguments. Learning academic writing is important because it is a way to communicate our thoughts clearly and originality. It helps us think and see what evidence we can come up to contribute to that thinking. The CPOA course offers a vast opportunity for self reflection and learning how to communicate with a multitude of different personalities. There were a plethora of topics taught during the 5 week course; however the topics that had the greatest influence and inspiration for me personally were the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI), Disc profile, and ropes course.
I am always a little nervous and hesitant when I begin writing an essay. Ever since I was little I was an honor roll student, passed all my tests, was placed in honors and AP classes, and eventually graduated a year early from high school. I used to be so confident when I would begin writing a paper, I could finish it within a couple minutes. During junior year of high school, I began taking duel credit classes. I was passing all the classes so far until I reached English 111. It was an 8-week course and I started to get overwhelmed. All throughout the course I was having a little bit of trouble on the essays. I would still receive a passing grade, but it wasn’t an A. I began becoming a little discouraged and didn’t understand what was going
Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
Up until this year, before taking the class intermediate composition, I thought I was a terrible writer. I was right. Writing isn’t something that I enjoy doing, nor am I good at. Writing is difficult for me because I’m not very good at explaining things in a professional manner, that can be easily well written. While writing you are expected to make little to no mistakes, which is not something I’m great at. I am so much better at explaining things with verbal words rather than written words. I had not taken any extra writing classes before this year rather than the mandatory ones. Like I had stated before, I hate writing, with a passion. Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.

I've learned that I am a stronger writer than I thought I was since I found that it was quite easy for me to prove my thesis statement clearly. Having to do pre-writing helped me discover certain flaws in my work and has made my writing much better than it was before I started the class. Being able to improve my ability to elaborate and discuss evidence/quotes even more would have been most helpful to me after completing this course.
For me, writing is like my 13-year-old self. That was the age where I started to really familiarize myself with hobbies I enjoyed such as a painting, playing the guitar, and making videos. It is how I feel towards writing also; it is full of so many different styles and genres, all of which give an opportunity for the writer to be creative. Writing is different for every individual, but for me, writing is a creative and thought-provoking process.
