When we think of travel we almost always think of visiting far away places and seeing new things. But sometimes travel could simply mean visiting the unexplored corners of your own city or town. One lazy weekend I had nothing much to do. As I sat sipping the morning tea, I realised that there are so many places in Mumbai that I still haven’t explored. Without further thoughts, I decided to explore the Elephanta Caves – one of the places I had been meaning to visit for far too long. I quickly packed a day bag and trotted out. I boarded the local train headed for Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. This historic railway station is also one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Life is Mumbai is a busy and fast paced one, and one can see the local trains crowded even on a Sunday …show more content…
Now a major tourist destination, the Gateway of India is flocked by large number of tourists as well as locals each day. I headed to the ferry point of the Gateway of India, also called Apollo Bunder and booked a ticket for the next ferry to Elephanta Island. There are frequent ferries to the island, typically at an interval of 30 minutes. It is approximately an hour-long journey to reach the island and vice-versa. The last boat from Gateway to Elephanta leaves at 2 PM. Similarly, the first boat leaves from Elephanta at 12 noon and last one leaves by 5.30 pm. The caves are closed for visits on Mondays. The Elephanta Island also called Gharapuri meaning ‘city of caves’, is home to the stunning Elephanta Caves. It is thickly wooded and fringed with mango, palm and tamarind trees. Tourists are not allowed to stay on the island for overnight halts. To reach the caves, one can take a flight of 120 odd steps or board the narrow gauge mini

It’s going to be a huge year for adventure travel, with many people wanting

It is very difficult to survive in such a place. The river will be hungry always. It has taken away many lives, and the women in the villages are almost widows. There are many harmful animals and insects which may destroy the lives of the people who live there. Even though there are many dangerous situations, Amitav Ghosh portrays beautifully and describes the forest Sundarbans, two thirds of Sundarbans are in Bangladesh and one third is in India. This is the place where the sea water and fresh water mingles and the rare species of Irrawaddy dolphins, which survive in this
There is around an hour long journey to reach there from my house, we chose to drive car because we were going other places after that. However, there are many ways to reach there by taking public transport such as KTM Komuter, buses and monorails. There are direct KTM Komuter trains from the KL Sentral to Batu Caves station that runs at about every 30 minutes. The train fare for one way adult is only about RM2.00, which is very cheap compared to paying more to ride taxi and facing traffic jam during peak hours. From Batu Caves station, the temple premises are just a minute away by walk.

Pushkar was a surprise in the entire travel package. The beautiful lake and ghats surrounding the lake along with temples enlighten your spiritual core. The city is known for the Brahma temple and the Cattle Fair which is held in November. In the morning I offered prayers at the Brahma temple and left for Ajmer. The spiritual colors of Sufism at Dargah Sharif left me spellbound. Do spend some time at the Qawwali gathering.

Living life in one area is great but exploring new places and cultures adds character and more well-rounded views. Even if it is just a business trip, immersion is inevitable. Take the time to embrace the wonder of going to a new place. The trip I am about to talk about introduced me to a world of new information and adventures.

Coming to New Delhi, begin with the Humayun's tomb, Gandhi Samadhi and later India Gate, as this one place looks too beautiful to be missed out during the evening time. And the chuski there is amazingly delicious!
...arrived at the makeshift stalls, or ‘thorombal’ as my little brother call them. They were selling palmyrah jaggery, popcorn, fruits and conch shells that are common in the area. “Buy ‘inguru dosi’ from me, three boxes are over and the last six remains,” an old woman announced. “Buy palmyrah jiggery from us, take these for your loved ones,” a man shouted. It was chaos at the road. We rushed to the jetty under the blazing sun and the heat. For our relief this time it was better boat and fewer crowds. The boat slowly drifted away from the islet, and the excited youngsters in the boat tried pushing the elderly crowd from the entrance and climbed to the roof when one nearly fell to the sea. Luckily, they had their life jackets on. Journey to Nagadeepa, was one memorable trip in my life. Now, I too can brag like my granny and other elders, “I have being to Nagadeepa”.
