1. Introduction

I choose this extraordinary novel because the story is very heartbreaking and heart-touching, about many culture issues such as women life which dependent on fathers, husbands and especially sons, the bearing of male children being their only path to an accepted social status, the story of an illegitimate daughter who finally forced at young age into marriage, the portrait of friendship and love in the middle of conflicts, the cruelty to women is endorsed by custom and law, and social document covering Afghan history from before the Soviet war until after the Taliban rule.

The story covers three decades of anti-Soviet jihad, civil war and Taliban tyranny seen from the perspectives of two women. Mariam, an illegitimate child who forced at fifteen into marriage and Laila, the young girl that losing her family after a rocket attack and she is pregnant Tariq’s child. They are married by Rasheed, an old man who is a shoemaker. Both of them experience the violent abuse. Mariam got it after miscarried for numerous time and Laila experiences it after gave birth Aziza. The oppression made them become allies in a battle with Rasheed, whose violent abuse is endorsed by custom and law, who finally killed by Mariam with shovel. After Rasheed died, they take a different path. Mariam decided to give up herself for execution and Laila is marrying her childhood love, Tariq. Laila tries to build her new life under the shadow of her difficult past. Besides, the novel tells about the dark history of Afghanistan with a variety of unfairly actions to women, the authors also takes us to understand the meaning of love, friendship, and parents-daughter relations, which was col...

...elf. For them, keep doing the housework and occasionally, cheat on their husband for the sake of personal pleasure is a sensible sort exemption of freedom. Sometimes, when I wrote about marital issues and published it, a lot of the comments came from women complaining about their experience violence issues but did not dare to report it. Regarding to them, as long as they are still a wife, all the torments are the proper thing to deal with.

5. Conclusion/Suggestion

How a child raised will influence how he/she solves the life issues include cultural issues that will faced. Government’s policy and legal protections must be considered to protect and to change the negative thinking of public with low level education about women's rights. Religion and other spiritual subjects is another significant factor that can shift the perspective to respect all human rights.
