A STUDY OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION TOWARDS MONORAIL SERVICES IN BUKIT BINTANG
CHAPTER ONE – INTRODUCTION
1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The KL monorail opened in August 2003 running between KL Sentral and Titiwangsa via Bukit Bintang. The monorail allowed for the first time a real traffic free route to Bukit Bintang an upmarket shopping and entertainment district in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. There are 11 stations over a distance of 8.6km along the KL monorail route and the end to end journey time is about 25 minutes. The KL monorail consists of a double beam elevated track running mostly along main roads of the inner city of KL this track allows for bi directional running along the entire monorail route in the same way a standard metro line would. The elevated track is much lighter in construction that other elevated railways. Also the elevated track is lower to the ground than typical elevated metros. The monorail trains are based on combination of German and Japanese technology but in a South East Asian first they were entirely locally built in Malaysia. The Monorail train sets are known as ALWEG straddle-beam monorails. In total there are 12 two car monorail sets in use on the KL monorail system. The layout of the seating in these monorail trains is quite unusual in that the seating is in the middle of car rather than under the windows. This has lead to a lower capacity in practice and longer station dwell times. The stations are all elevated with two separate platforms for each direction. At the terminus there is a single track and platform with a double face. This is to allow boarding on one side and disembarking on the other to speed up passenger loading times at the terminus. High-speed railway (HRL) systems have been used primarily over in such countries as Japan since 1964 and France since 1984. Recently the United States has generated interest in the high-speed railway as well. The proposed system would stretch from Miami through Orlando and end in the St. Petersburg/Tampa area. With bullet trains operating at top speeds of 220 miles an hour, the express travel time from downtown Miami to Orlando would take approximately 2.5 hours. Intercity travelers (trips between metropolitan regions) along with longer-distance commuters would enjoy the benefits of a system designed to connect with existing rail, air, and highway systems.
Maglev, short for magnetic levitation, is a new system being used in the design of train railways. These maglev trains are using electromagnetically-driven systems to achieve high –speed transportation. These trains move through electromagnetic propulsion, levitating over a guideway.
The world of Model Train Building has grown greatly with the aid of computers and technology to enhance the fun of building. Technology has long been a part of Model Train building with the adding of lights, bells, and whistles to capture your interest and imagination. But with the latest generation of building comes the influx of technology and the computer. The computer brings along a new breed of builders who plan track layout, buy parts on the Internet, receive updated news, and chat with other enthusiast.
The railroad industry is a mature market. The best option for growth is through mergers and acquisitions. By merging with Conrail, CSX would claim almost 70% of the Eastern market. By combining the rail networks CSX-Conrail would be able to offer long-haul routes between the Southern, Northeast, and Midwest ports. The combined entity would be able to consolidate overlapping operations which would reduce costs by an estimated $370 million by 2000. The cost savings would also be passed onto customers using the shorter routes between the Midwest and the South. By offering more competitive pricing an additional $180 million in operating income is expected through revenue increases. Part of this additional revenue is expected to be taken from Norfolk Southern.
From organic to mechanical, the industrialization of time and of space, the history of transportation and the rise of railways during the Industrial Revolutions throughout Europe and America played an ever-important role in the way our perception of technology and our consciousness has changed and adapted to the learned behaviors of the mechanical and industrialized world. In Schivelbusch’s The Railway Journey: The Industrialization of Time and Space in the Nineteenth Century one will find many key concepts on how technology has impacted the basic ideas of time and space, mechanical versus natural, progress and uniformity just to name a few.
The rail systems put into place in Chicago have always been a major factor in freight transportation. The city provides a centralized hub for the railways throughout the country. After a long run the system is bound to find flaws as old technologies are passed by new ones. The existing railroad structures have in time taken a toll over the years of service. “The railroad system of Chicago has been around for a long time now. After many years it has gone past time time of despair. With the new project it is hoping to bring the popularity back to where it once was” (Chicago Transit Renovation to Improve Service). This update needed will guide Chicagos railroad system into the future. The city also has to take a look on how it is going to keep up with the constant increase of railcars on their tracks. With the new technologies of the future Chicago can only make their infrastructure better. The aim is to stay on time with the railcars to diminish the amount of overcrowding presented in the old rail systems in Chicago.
Light Rail Now. “New subway (metro) systems cost nearly 9 times as much as light rail.” February. 13, 2014. https://lightrailnow.wordpress.com/2014/02/13/new-subway-metro-systems-cost-nearly-9-times-as-much-as-light-rail/
Being in the government sector the research for customer satisfaction was focused on governmental agencies and the aspects associated with those agencies. Most citizens have a preconceived idea about government agencies and I wanted to see if those preconceived ideas were based on real experiences. This was done by researching and finding results either supporting or contradicting this notion. According to Tom Schoop the government does as well as any big company as far as customer satisfaction. (Schoop 2006) I work for a contractor, ResCare that is assigned by the Dallas County Texas Workforce Board to operate the Dallas County Workforce Centers and run the associated state and federal programs assigned to the Dallas County Workforce Centers. I will begin by identifying three governmental agencies and providing results found during the research. I will then link these results to the customer satisfaction ideals and practices of ResCare. Finally, I will discuss possible recommendations for ResCare to improve customer satisfaction.
Does UK Public transport live up to expectations? Introduction Public transportation has always been a key issue to the government by trying to promote public transport more than using a car. Today public transport is pushed more to help reduce factors of pollution and congestion which seem to be growing all over the UK. Transportation needs vary greatly depending on peoples commuting needs and therefore trying to focus on transport as a whole over the UK is very difficult to research. I have used over 20 documents to help me research this statement.
The subway had to be built around most of these items to prevent interference. As a result of this, where the subway was subject to pass was dangerously close to the foundations of many buildings. To insure the safety of both the subway and the building many tests were taken. Furthermore, Parsons had to take into consideration that construction could not interfere with traffic. Another difficult task that had to be overcome were the electric railway tracks and horse car tracks that needed to be excavated. The solution to this was to dig near one side of the curb and once that was completed they move onto the other side. By working on one side at a time allowed them to support the underground pipes and the railway wood and steal beams safely.
On completion, it was the world’s largest building floor area, with over 1, 713, 000 square meter. It owns the capacity of managing 43 million passengers per year. It is working since 14th October of 2008, opened in four phases for the purpose of avoiding collapse of baggage handling. It has the large area under the subway for taxis which is in direct connection with the Concourse B.
The second objective was to explore the learning satisfaction level of the students in the experimental group using DRTA strategy in reading the text. The data for the questionnaires was collected through Likert scale with five points; the rating scale is as follows: 5- Strongly agree, 4- Agree, 3- Neither agree nor disagree, 2- Disagree, and 1- Strongly disagree (Vagias, W.M, 2006). The questionnaire was administered after the intervention to the experimental group. Mean and standard deviation was computed for all the statements. The result was presented in table 4.4

The transit rail lines are the most used of the MBTA system. In 2005, on the average weekday there were over 630,000 boardings on the rapid transit, light rails, and commuter lines; an estimated 70 percent of the MBTA system. Boston has several important TRL, which consist of a network of light and rapid transit rails and the regional commuter rail lines operated by the MBTA. The TRL consists of three rapid transit lines- the Red, Orange, and Blue lines, and two light rails-the Green line and the Ashmont-Mattapan Line (designated as part of the Red line) and the Commuter (Purple) lines. The TRL allow for high capacity transportation ...
Rail transportation is a transportation in which for movement of people and goods which from one location to another destination. Rail had been takes the important role in physical and economic development of town and cities in a country and it was developed over the world. Rail transport can be made a property value in a country increase and it must be needs improvement in transportation network expanding (Goldberg, 1970). Thus, the railway services need to be done with continuous improvement and it is important to the rail passengers of the range and quality of facilities and service on stations and trains (Gleave, S. D., 2000). The future development to a public transportation is a key to affect
