The loss of money, power, pride, and family is what a tragic hero goes through. This is the case in almost all ancient Greek tragedies like Oedipus the King, Oedipus at Colonus, and one of the most famous plays, Antigone. Antigone is a well-known play written in around 441 B.C.E by Sophocles, one of the greatest ancient Greek tragedians. As a screenwriter for a movie trailer, the lines I choose from Sophocles’ play should determine the meaning of the movie but should not reveal the ending or conclusion. By adding the lines that show Antigone’s situations and revealing Creon’s pride and power in his empire, the audience can easily point out the tragic hero, and understand the situation Antigone, Ismene and other characters are in just by watching the movie trailer.
In the making of the movie trailer, as the screenwriter, I had to choose the line that truly grasped the audience’s attention, especially the first scene.
