A commercials main purpose has always been to expose products to possible consumers. Therefore, during the super bowl, companies try to advertise their products as thoroughly as possible because there will be millions of viewers. Usually the commercials that are remembered impact the viewers by using rhetorical appeals. This is exactly what GNC decided to do with their commercial it explains that self-improvement and change are essential. This commercial aired in the 2017 Super Bowl and throughout this video they target people in the age range of 15-40. During the video teenagers and adults are shown trying to find the courage to achieve their aspirations. Most of the goals in the video were based around fitness and their ability to succeed. In one scenario that is shown, there is a teenage boy who doesn’t have an arm and he is attempting to play the drum and after many attempts he overcomes this impediment. By observing other’s lives it makes the viewer compare their lives and appreciate how many opportunities they have. During the entire video there is a narrator that is very inspirational, for example, he says, “Change is your destiny. Now go chase it.” at the end of the video. These words motivate the viewer to gather the courage to attain the change they want to see in themselves. The GNC commercial overall used rhetorical appeals effectively. They captivated the audience so they could get their message across: Courage is needed in order to change.
