You sit in the driver’s seat of your automobile, inserting the ignition key and turning over the car, a circuit is made activating the battery and motor, injecting gasoline and ethanol into your vehicles engine. As the spark plugs flash with heat and energy igniting the fuel, your engine roars, and pushes the burned exhaust out of the muffler and into the air. The same air that you, your children, pets, neighbors, friends, and family must all breathe in. Your family coughs as they breathe in the newly expelled carbon monoxide, and they wave goodbye to you before your morning commute. You arrive at work, and gather your tools for maintaining the engines that power the desalinization machines. Gallon after gallon of fuel is burned fueling the …show more content…
You may be wondering, what is pollution? Dictionary.com defines it as, “the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment”. With that being said we need to take a look at the different forms of pollution and how they occur. The pollution of the atmosphere (air) is one of the most evident in our world today. If you look at highly industrialized cities such as Los Angeles, or Beijing, you will probably notice the thick layer of smoke surrounding them. This is smog. Smog is a harmful mixture of toxic gases typically composed of CO (carbon monoxide) gas, carbon, and sulfur particles. This smog is the exhaust from machines that require the burning of non-renewable gasses and liquids such as gasoline, diesel, butane, and methane (natural gas). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms as “flu-like”, with an expanded list of symptoms such as, “headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion” more information is given on their article titled “What is Carbon …show more content…
The Institute for Energy Research says, "[only 0.4% of the U.S. electricity comes from the sun, it is still a growing industry, as many homes and companies are installing solar panels, to save money, and the environment.]" In general, the panels use the gamma rays from the sun and change it to an usable form of energy. When sunlight hits the surface of a panel, the energy is transmitted through tiny photosensitive cells within the panel, and are directed to a central grid, and into this power grid to be used within the home, or facility. Energy technicians install and repair solar panels for both commercial and domestic clients. In larger facilities they also do inspections, overseeing, and efficiency reports. New clean energy is the answer to a clean, biologically safe way of life and planet earth. Automobiles, Aircrafts, large scale manufacturing, agriculture, and more will be not only clean, and safe, but affordable and efficient as well. In order or this to become a reality, this planet needs renewable energy scientists, engineers, and technicians to discover new ways to effectively generate clean energy, in a practical and affordable
There are six common pollutants in the air, which include ozone, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and lead. These pollutants led to many different symptoms across the United States. Ozone pollution leads to impaired respiratory system. Particulate matter affects respiratory systems, causes cancer, and premature death. Carbon monoxide affects the bloodstream and reduces oxygen to the body’s organs. Nitrogen oxide causes influenza. Sulfur dioxide effects respiratory illness and pulmonary defenses. Lead causes effects in the liver,
Greetings, and thank you for reading this letter. Pollution is something that is gradually destroying our planet. It is responsible for about 6.7% of deaths worldwide. There are many forms of pollution, including; hazardous spills in important bodies of water, household dumping and littering, the release of greenhouse gasses, and most importantly, smog. Smog is extremely harmful for humans to breathe, along with animals and nature. This poisonous gas is a heavy combination of fog or haze with smoke and other atmospheric pollutants. The main contribution of smog is factories and powerplants. This letter will be addressing the result of smog and pollution and what your corporation can do to help reduce it.
Before a person can tackle handling the concept of global warming, they first must analyze the true definition of what it is. Climate change periodic modification of Earth’s climate brought about as a result of changes in the atmosphere as well as interactions between the atmosphere and various other geologic, chemical, biological, and geographic factors within the Earth 's system. (britannica) Since all 196 countries in the world have to share the oxygen and carbon dioxide, we all should take a part in the responsibility of taking care of earth. On November 6, 2012 President Obama said that we want our children to live in a world without the destructive power of a warming planet. The biggest challenge we face is not only saving a warming
The topic I choose is Global Warming. Global warming is a big issue on the earth. This is the issue that I am most worry about, because If we don’t do something right now, then is going to be too late. When I am in trips with my family there is always a place where people contaminate our environment and that make me feel bad. In the Amazons in Brazil, they have a very big deforestation issues. Claim; Although you only one person cannot, you can still help and participate in saving the rainforest for many reasons. They are killing thousands of trees everyday. Deforestation of the Amazon rainforest can be attributed to many different factors at local, national, and international levels. The rainforest is seen as a resource for cattle pasture,
With new diesel technology in today’s world, I think people should consider trying or using new diesel cars and trucks as well as the use of clean diesel.
Seventy year old Minnie has been working really hard after coming out of retirement from the past 5 years. Ever since Mickey died she needed a reason to be out of the house, and working as an entertainer where she sings at night is the only way she can provide for herself. And by working long hours from the evening to the night she doesn’t get the amount of rest she needs. She works harder than her body can handle and since she is surrounded by people that smoke her intake of second hand smoke is not measured, along with her smoking because of the stress. Over the past year her caffeine intake has also increased by drinking coffee to keep her running, and getting her job done.
Pollution is a worldwide catastrophe that contaminates or destroys every living and non-living thing in its path. The earth is designed to constantly balance itself allowing plant and animal life the ability to thrive. Unfortunately when bombarded with chemicals, heavy metals and unnatural human waste, the earth exceeds its critical load and irreversible damage occurs. There are literally thousands of areas that have been negatively effected by the numerous types of pollution. To date there are over four thousand lakes alone where wildlife and human use ceases to exist. Pollution reeks such havoc on communities because it "knows no boundaries." Even if one country implements tough emission laws, a neighboring country's pollution may continue destroying its resources.
Pollution of the oceans have been a big problem in the world, and it seems that these problems are not getting better. People keep talking about how we need to fix this problem, but no one seems to act on it. Ocean pollution is terrible for not just fish, but humans also. All this is also avoidable, the majority of the oceans pollution is man made. We are just hurting ourselves by doing this, but people continue to put stuff in the ocean. There is a clean up process for all of this, but it is not easy. Much is at harm from ocean pollution and it should be treated.
Climate change. The two letter word so feared by scientists, so ignored by the average human being. What is it that makes scientists fear this phrase so much? For the concept of “climate change” has been seen throughout the history of the earths existence. For centuries, our climate has fluctuated through increasing and decreasing amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide and climatic cycles. So what is the big deal? The problem, and the reason why this concept instills fear directly into the core of scientists is the rate at which over the past 1,300 years atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have risen. This unnatural increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide, due to the immense amount of anthropogenic burning of oil and coal, affects the transfer
Global warming is an issue that the world is facing and has to be faced and taken care off immediately. Global warming is when there's too much carbon dioxide in the air. This then traps heat and warms the planet. Carbon increases in the atmosphere as fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas are being burnt or used for energy. Burning forests also increases carbon in the air.
There are many kinds of air pollution. The ones I want to talk about are the ozone, acid rain, carbon monoxide and toxic air contaminants. Ozone is formed when hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide react in sunlight. Therefore, ozone is at its peak during hot summer days. Exposure to high levels of ozone can have serious consequences on your health. It can cause respiratory disease, loss of pulmonary elasticity, and premature aging of our lungs. Next, is acid rain, which occurs in the atmosphere in the form of sulfur and nitrogen oxide. These pollutants can have serious damaging affects on aquatic, forest and wildlife ecosystems, as well as deterioration of buildings. Carbon monoxide is another form of pollution. It reduces the blood?s ability to carry oxygen. If a human is exposed to higher levels, it can cause chest pains, angina attacks or even death.
Our planet is suffering from severe pollution, which ranges from contaminated air, water and soil as well. Humans are doing nothing to reduce the amount of pollution that is harming our earth. To understand how pollution works first you must understand that there are different types of pollution. The most common types of pollution and the ones that I will be focusing on which are the ones doing the most harm to our planet are air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination and littering. In order to help out and reduce pollution in our planet people need to be more aware of what these problems are and about the severe damages that they are causing our planet. Before industrialization really jumped into place and had an effect on large cities, nature had its own way of cleaning up its own air and itself. Wind scattered gases, rain washed many substances and the rest dissolved into the ground; while plants absorbed carbon dioxide and made it into oxygen. With big cities growing more every time and with more towns that were becoming more industrialized a lot of more waste began to be released into the environment and the atmosphere and soon this was more than enough for nature to handle. In order to stop and reduce pollution people need to understand the damage that it is causing our environment and our planet as well. People need to be more aware of how they can help out and do their part in reducing these problems that are causing our planet to die slowly with people not even noticing it.
Even if the reason of climate change may be the natural cycles, we humans are the major determinant to it. The huge amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is causing the climate change and this amount is rising day by day, as a result of our actions. Greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, generally absorb and emit the heat in the atmosphere to keep the Earth’s climate habitable. However, as we continue to burn fossil fuels, this habitable Earth’s temperature will blow up, and as a result, some species will die out due to various problems which are caused by climate change. According to EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the most obvious consequence of climate change is the rising sea levels, which will cause some seashore habitats to become unavailable to live to its species.
What is pollution? Pollution is a detrimental enemy to all species that walk on earth. It is a product of mankind carbon foot print on the environment. It consists of chemicals or particles in the air that can harm the health of humans, animals, and plants. Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate the natural surrounding; which brings about changes that affect our normal lifestyles adversely. Pollutants are the key elements of pollution which are generally waste materials of dissimilar forms. Pollution disturbs our ecosystem and the balance in the environment. With innovation and development in our lives pollution has reached its peaks; giving rise to global warming and human illness. When raw materials, water, energy and other resources
Pollution is a massive problem that the earth faces. Pollution is the action or process of making land, water, air, etc…, dirty and not safe or suitable to use. Pollution of air, water, and soil are the most complex issues. Various types of gases and toxins that are released by industries
