Nowadays, in the developmental researching practice, we know that the causes of poverty can be multi-dimensional, the analysis should be on the basic of the local context, and then come out with pointed strategies for reducing poverty, so this multi-dimensional analysis requires a much broader scale of researching, in other ways, it needs a broader participation of stakeholders who are involved in each part of this process, therefore, through the participatory research, it can deepen the understanding of poverty in term of different perspectives, finally it would impact on the policy making. So participation has become to the highlight and gained more and more attention in the poverty assessment(Lararus,2008).
Introduction
The method that poverty participatory assessments (PPAs) has provided a effective way for reducing poverty by public action, it use the participatory research methods to analyze the poverty from the perspectives of the poor, and through the poor involving to decide which part should be improved in the priority. And also it has made a contribution to influence the public policy making of reducing poverty(Norton,2001).
History
PPAs can be defined that it is a research method which analyze factors of poverty through different perspectives, especially including the poor views, and then improve the situation by influencing public policy(Stephen and Norton,1995). In 1990s, World Bank was focusing on developing approaches which could assess the the level of poverty in all countries which received aids to reduce poverty, the PPAs was one of these dominant approaches which researched the country poverty, the term of PPAs was created in 1992 by the World Bank. Before the PPAs, most of the research methods were only base...

...servation and analysis. But in many cases, this requirements are hard to be met(Robb,2002).
The Future of PPAs
With the changing of environment, there will be more challenges emerging, the PPAs needs to keep adjust its structure constantly in order to adapt the new context(Larazus,2008). At present, the PPAS has already gotten some achievement, it invite the poor to participate in this research process, adding the poor’s perspectives, but in fact, the ownership is still largely controlled by most of the donor institutions, they have a powerful influence on the research, so for PPAs, in the next step of development, it need to solve this problem, strengthen the poor’ capacity of involving in process of policy making and balancing the power of authority. It needs to make a clear understanding of the rights and obligations of poor in the local environment(Norton,2001).
An article published in Issues in Science and Technology, stated that thirty-two percent of individuals in the United States are living below the poverty threshold. A study conducted in Living Below the Poverty Line, found that forty five percent of individuals and or families obtain income that is not substantial enough to meet basic needs of the individual and or family. In this same study it was founded that of these individuals thirty nine percent of these individuals were adults but fifty five of these individuals living above the poverty threshold were children.
Poverty is not just an issue reserved for third world countries. Instead, poverty is a multifaceted issue that even the most developed nations must battle
Poverty is a serious phenomenon that has been widespread all over the world. Although, many charitable organizations like CARE, Action Against Hunger (AAH) or Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) have operated with a highest enthusiasm to help the indigent, the amount of those have still been increasing significantly in recent years. According to the survey of the United States Census Bureau, the percentage of Americans in poverty rose from 12.2 to 15.9 percent and the proportion skyrocketed from 33.3 million to 48.8 million between 2000 and 2012 (Bishaw, 2013). The indigent are very poor people, including the disabled, beggars, homeless people who live in slums with lacking of insurance, being unemployed and earning underpaid salaries, about 1.25$ a day (Shah, 2011). Many of them are innocent people who face with mishaps that they cannot control. Consequently, they not only affect the society but also impact on development of the young generation. Therefore, the government should be responsible for take care of the indigent as well as supporting them to enhance the standard of living of citizens and maintain the stability of the society.
“Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.” -- Norman Vincent Peale --
...en have lived in poverty in 1997- more than in any year since 1966 to 1990” (Sherman and Sandfort). This article focuses on the importance of ending poverty on all levels. To be able to do this, it would take the cooperation of people from every level of the system. Government policies would need to be made or stepped up to represent the people and give back what they constantly take away. Each state can take similar steps to reassure persons in their own regions they will be well taken care of. However, the last level is where the average person can begin to get involved-your own community. Each community involves a number of people who are responsible for studying and documenting data concerning poverty which provides assistance to different leaders in the community and will enable leaders in the community to reach out to more people that are affected by poverty.
Most people of the society still blame the poor for their own predicament. They believe that "if there is a will there is a way". However, they do not think about their government that might had made bad decisions and policies that could actually harm successful development. This causes of poverty and inequality are usually less discussed and often neglected. We must recognize the effects poverty could have on the society and seek ways to create better understanding and resolve the issue before it is too late.
Poverty affects a child’s educational outcomes beginning in the earliest years of life, both directly and indirectly. School readiness has been recognized as playing a unique role in escape from poverty in the United States and increasingly in developing countries. The driving forces in poverty are Survival, relationships, and entertainment. These are critical elements that make up the poverty alleviation strategy. This essay reviews the interventions needed to improve school readiness of children in poverty, and provides recommendations for helping them further their driving forces.
Poverty is defined as: the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. Poverty does not care what age, sex, race, or religion you are, poverty is not just what you see on television, it doesn’t just happen in third world countries, it is real and can be right in front of your face. I remember hearing stories on the radio and television of celebrities that were homeless before they made it big. After Jim Carrey’s father lost his job, they found themselves living out of a van. Charlie Chaplin was homeless and searching for food at the age of 14 after his father died and his mother was committed to a mental asylum. It can happen to anyone.
Poverty has been a growing problem in America, and it most likely will never stop being one. Someone who is identified as being in poverty lives beneath the poverty line determined by the Federal government. The poverty line in 2015 for a family of four was $24,250. These are the people who are really considered poor. Poverty isn’t just a problem in the United States; in fact, other countries struggle just as much, if not more, than the United States does. Many people struggle to keep themselves above the government’s poverty line, shown by the fact that the percent of poor people in America hasn’t drastically changed over the years. However, it is possible to get out of, and ultimately stay out of, poverty.
Many people do not realize that there are tens of millions of people in America who are living in poverty because they are stuck on the fact that America is one of the richest nations. People who are living in poverty barely have enough money to survive on basic necessities like food, shelter and electricity. They often have a hectic schedule filled with work, school, or other activities that they have to do in order for them to live a somewhat stable life. Unfortunately, there are others who are living in poverty that may be ill or disabled and barely able to survive even if they are receiving money to help with their situation. There are a few programs that help those in poverty with their financial problems, but they only help them to a certain extent. Changes need to be done to help alleviate the poverty rate because these people should not have to deal with all of these hardships or have such a negative perspective of life. Therefore, America can reduce its poverty by raising the minimum wage, making health care more accessible, and by making child care more affordable. These solutions will be a great start to reducing poverty and they will lead America into a brighter future.
Poverty is an ever-growing problem throughout our modern world, with millions living in its extremes. There are many consequences of poverty and the way they affect children and family life is absolutely detrimental. Poverty can be simply defined as “the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions” (Encyclopedia Britannica 2014). There are two distinct variations of poverty – absolute poverty and relative poverty, which will be further discussed throughout this essay. The total number of people worldwide who live on less than $2.50 (the bare minimum of the poverty line) is 3 billion (Global Issues, The Human Development Report, 2012). According to many, there are a varied number of consequences for those who live in poverty, especially children and families. The effects of poverty have proven to have detrimental effects on child development and the nature of family life. Saunders (2005) reiterates these factors of poverty in his book “The Consequences of Poverty”. This essay will state the many aspects of poverty and the detrimental effects its holds within child development, family life and the health of indiviudals.
The purpose of this essay is to reveal the different sociological perspectives that exist. In addition to that, these different sociological perspectives shall be discussed and their significance shall be established. As such, a research question shall also be formulated and the sociological perspectives shall be used to discuss more on the research question that will have been formulated. Based on that, the general research topic that will formulate a topic for discussion in this paper is: “What are the contributors to poverty in the United States”.
As one of the biggest problems facing the world today, poverty continues to have significant negative implications for the society. The effects of poverty are extremely severe and far-reaching, so much so that it was one of the top Millennium Development Goals agreed upon at the Millennium Summit of the UN back in 2000 (Hatcher, 2016). To understand the effects that poverty has on the society, one must critically analyze the societies in which poverty is rampant, as well as analyze poverty from the relative perspectives that it presents. The core aim of this paper is to develop a holistic understanding of poverty and elaborate on the diverse ways in which it continues to affect societies across the world.
When I was younger poverty and homelessness seemed like such far out terms. I didn’t understand how someone didn’t live in a house with four walls and a roof over their head. When I thought about poverty, I always pictured third world countries most of the time. Especially due to the commercials of these places with the children crying, wearing scraps of cloth, and having to drink polluted water. In regard to homelessness, I had the views that usually appear in movies, disheveled people on the streets who have drug and alcohol problems. As I grew up I started to notice how each person has an important role in society, but I couldn’t see what their role could be. In school we didn’t really talk about these people either so I assumed they weren’t really apart of society. My parents combatted that with teaching us the ‘golden rule’ and treating others how you would want to be treated. There are some instances that they gave some money to these people. Since I had the views from what I saw on TV. I thought they would go spend it on drugs or alcohol. I remember asking my mom why give them money if they are going to spend it on those things. She said that that is not for me to worry about and that we do it
In a contemporary world, poverty is inter-linked with systemic deprivation of rights and related to the notion of Human Development
