ICT stands for Information Communications Technology. ICT covers any device or system such as Personal Computers, Laptops, Mobile Phones and Tablets that manipulate, receive, store or send information. Information can be facets of life you learn about someone, or what is sent and received about something through a particular sequence of events. Technology is the system or object that allows for this sharing of information. The ‘C’ in ICT stands for Communications and covers all communication technologies such as digital TV, email, internet, broadband, mobile phones, fax etc. Communication is the transferral of ones’ ideas, opinions, dreams via the medium of speech or written word or even technology. The difference between IT (Information Technology) and ICT (Information Communications Technology) is IT refers to an entire industry that uses …show more content…
Four generations of computers have evolved from the 1950’s. Each generation reflected a change to hardware of decreased size but increased capabilities to control computer operations. The first commercial computer was developed by John Eckert and John W. Mauchly in 1951 and was known as Univac 1. For the next 25 years, mainframe computers were used to do calculations in large corporations. Supercomputers were used in Science and Engineering, for designing aircraft and nuclear reactors, and for predicting worldwide weather patterns. Minicomputers came on the scene in the early 1980’s in small businesses, manufacturing plants and factories. Computers today are divided into four categories by size, cost and processing ability. They are supercomputers, mainframe, minicomputer and microcomputer more commonly known as a Personal Computer. Personal computers can be further divided into desktop, network, laptop and handheld. By the 1970’s with the development of the Internet by the US Department of Defence, the Information Age was

Computer science is one of the fastest growing career fields in modern history. Dating back only a few decades to the late 1950's and early 1960's, it has become on of the leading industries in the world today. Developed through the technological architecture of electrical engineering and the computational language of mathematics, the science of computer technology has provided considerable recognition and financial gain for many of its well deserving pioneers. Originally conceived as an organizational solution to the massive amounts of information kept on nothing more than paper, computers have evolved and advanced to become a common part of modern day life. In the early days of the computer age, the newest and most complex computers took up no less than an entire building or very large room. It was inconceivable that these machines would after only about fifty years be many times more powerful and small enough to be held with tweezers.
In the beginning, computers stored memory on reels of magnetic film, and the average size of a computer was as big enough to fill a whole room. Gradually, computers were built smaller and faster; however, computers were strictly used for business purposes, and only trained technicians were allowed to operate them. In this day and age, operating computers has become a daily exercise for the majority of the population.
Information communication technologies (ICT) have been to found to play a very vital role in the world of work. However in their mandate to play such role the information communication technologies have brought its own challenges such as lack of skills to operate them. These challenges inhibit them from playing their vital role in the work of work.
Computers technology has a huge impact throughout our social world and economy. A computer is an electronic device that is used for storing and processing data for purposes of work (Forester, 1988). It helps operate work automatically for people. Multiple modifications and new build- INS in this technology have affected our environment and the way people use it today (Schoenherr). Computers started from the simplest technology to models that could perform increasingly complex tasks. It first started with the vacuum tube, then the transistor, next was the IC computer, the microprocessor, and overtime came the present and beyond which included the Apple Macintosh (Johnson, 2003).
Information technology (IT) is the application of computers to store, study, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data, or information, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. IT is considered a subset of information and communication technology(ICT). Current IT in use at most of the cooperative banking industry
The invention of computers has made a huge change in human civilization and society, by changing the way people think. Computers replaced jobs and tedious repetitive thoughts that were done by human originally. People became more and more reliant on computers, and thus, computers became essential to our lives. Computers can manufacture products quickly, and eliminate possible human errors. As technology progresses, new ideas have been brought into computer to make them perform more efficiently. Also, scientists and engineers tend to make things “smaller”, so we can enjoy the benefits from electronic devices anywhere and anytime. Therefore, size and efficiency are two main points for consumers. Desktop computer and laptop computer are representatives for each of these concepts. Although desktops and laptops come from the same origin, they are different in many ways.
According to Senn (1998), Information Technology (IT) is contains three components, which are computers, communication and expertise. A combination of the three components creates opportunities for people and organization to become more productive, effective and generally successful without being separated. In general, Information Technology is the main player in the information era. The technology is used to access, store and distribute the information, especially the information in the digital form. Information Technology (IT) can support activities involving creation, storage, manipulating and communication of information, which are related methods, management and applications. Besides than that, In the 21st century has brought the information era, where it is continuing with the rapid pace computerized system being used in all types of sector, from medical and space exploration to education, such as banking and manufacturing sectors. The demand of Information Technology (IT) was increased due to the usage and development of many types of complex systems. According to Senn (1998), there are six features where to differentiate the information era from the Agricultural era and Industrial era:
The Importance of Information and Communications Technology Information and communications technology (ICT) is generally regarded as the overlap of computer information and telecommunications technologies, and their applications. In this document the term ICT is used to indicate the whole range of technologies involved in information processing and electronic communications, including the internet, electronic mail and videoconferencing. In recent years ICT has had, and is continuing to have, an increasingly significant impact on all aspects of society. There are few areas of life, at home and in work, where this new technology has not made an impact. ICT expands our access to, and understanding of, the world at large.
In 1947 Howard Aiken, an engineer, predicted six computers would satisfy the computing needs of the U.S. By the year 1955, 244 computer systems were in use and by 1984 U.S. businesses and individuals purchased over two million personal computers. By 1994, shipments of over 47 million personal computers were made worldwide. The use of personal computers has increased rapidly over the past half-century and therefore the need for new hardware and software will keep the need for computer engineers to continue producing new products. The first position for a person becoming a computer Engineer is a Junior Computer Engineer.
Information technology (IT) is a label that has two meanings. In common usage, the term “information technology” is often used to refer to all of computing. As a name of an undergraduate degree program, it refers to the preparation of students to meet the computer technology needs of business, government, healthcare, schools, and other kinds of organizations.
In 1937 the electronic computer was born. Computers were in 1943 to break “the unbreakable” German Enigma codes. 1951 introduced the computer commercially. However, it wasn’t until around 1976 when the Apple II was introduced and it was immediately adopted by high schools, colleges, and homes. This was the first time that people from all over really had an opportunity to use a computer. Since that time micro processing chips have been made, the World Wide Web has been invented and in 1996 more than one out of every three people have a computer in their home, and two out of every three have one at the office.
The computer evolution has been an amazing one. There have been astonishing achievements in the computer industry, which dates back almost 2000 years. The earliest existence of the computer dates back to the first century, but the electronic computer has only been around for over a half-century. Throughout the last 40 years computers have changed drastically. They have greatly impacted the American lifestyle. A computer can be found in nearly every business and one out of every two households (Hall, 156). Our Society relies critically on computers for almost all of their daily operations and processes. Only once in a lifetime will a new invention like the computer come about.
computer. The electronic computer has been around for over a half-century, but its ancestors have been around for 2000 years. However, only in the last 40 years has it changed the American society. From the first wooden abacus to the latest high-speed microprocessor, the computer has changed nearly every aspect of people’s lives for the
ICT is an umbrella term that refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. It covers all the technical equipment to process and communicate information. It is often understood as a diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, create, disseminate, store, and manage information [1]. ICT covers two aspects: the aspect of information technology and the aspect of communication technology. Information technology encompasses all matters relating to the processing, use as a tool, manipulation, and management of information. Communication technology is everything associated with the use of tools to process and transfer data from one device to another [2] where the focus is on telecommunications mediums, such as the Internet, cell phone networks, and satellite technology.
