Lab Write Up 1

Abstract The objective of this lab was to count the amount of trucks and other vehicles that were Texas or non-Texas. I was assigned to Group #2, which consisted of counting the vehicles in lot 15 and 55. The lot that we were designated to collect data from approximately had 75 parking spaces, with that information it then resulted in making our hypothesis more accurate. After making the hypothesis, we walked outside to our area and began counting the vehicles that were Texas and non-Texas. We then compared and merged the data with the rest of the class groups. As a class we collected the data from the other groups, which lead us to having a more clear understanding on the results to answer the question of the lab. This lab will determine where A&M students actually come from.

Background The scientific method allows us to answer a question by following a series of steps. It consist of formulating a question, hypothesis, Testing or collecting data and finally analysis and conclusion. Our lot had space for about 75 vehicles and only 67 spaces were occupied. We began to count the vehicles around 9:45am and we finished tallying up the results around 10:00am, during those 15 min no vehicles entered the lot, just the ones that were parked were counted. We tallied our results in the Laboratory Manual, in the table provided. We began by marking our results with tallies we then noticed that the group members were getting different numbers, to resolve this we counted together and added a certain amount rather than one by one tallies.
