The A-league has been the predominant source of European football in Australia for around 11 years. The A-League first consisted of eight teams from all around Australia and one from New Zealand. Since then we have seen two teems break through the ranks and make the league more competitive.
Most people would debate that the A-League needs a second tier due to the lack of entertainment, watching teams fight for promotion and trying to stay out of the relegation zone, with a second league the Australian soccer scene could become more popular, leading to a wider range of fans for newer and old teams. Ryan Strain is still currently at Aston Villa playing for their youth side where as Thomas Strain has made a name for himself in the English soccer scene scoring himself a transfer to Chester. Awer Mabil was a Sudanese refugee who moved to Australia with his family and started playing for local clubs. Awer was then picked up by Adelaide United scouts who knew the young boy had raw talent and a will to be the best. Awer started out with Adelaide youth and worked his way through to the first team, playing for the under 21’s, under 23’s and eventually making his A-League debut for Adelaide United. Once making a name for himself in Australia Awer then moved up to the Australian under 20’s and under 23’s. Once playing national tier soccer he was spotted by the Danish superliga champion club FC Midtjylland who placed a bid to buy Awer Mabil for a transfer fee which has been undisclosed, it has been suspected that FC Midtjylland payed around 1.3 million for the Sudanese refugee which would have broken the record of Rostyn Griffith.
