Augustana basketball is a well loved and largely attended event at Augustana college. I had been told that the team has great basketball skills and often win. Although I was excited to get to experience the game for the first time, I had already started forming expectations. As I approached my first experience as a cheerleader at an Augustana basketball game, I had three expectations. These three expectations were a lack of crowd involvement, my overall un-interest in the game itself, and an adrenaline rush. The first expectation that I expected at the basketball game was a lack of crowd involvement. In high school I cheered for a small private school called QCCS that had about 100 students. During high school, football season last term, and yell last term, I experienced a rush of excitement each time I performed or stunted. This excitement is one of my favorite parts about cheerleading. As each stunt hits and the crowd screams your heart races and you can’t help but smile with happiness. As I prepared for my first Augustana basketball game, I expected the feeling to be no different. I was definitely not disappointed. Because I was so close to the crowd and it was more personal at basketball games, the excitement just got better. During starting line up, time outs, and half time we are so close to the crowd. This close proximity just makes stunting even more exciting because I know that the crowd is watching me. As I prepared for the each stunt my hands shake a little bit and my heart races because I can feel all of the eyes on me. As each stunt hit and the crowd cheered for us that nervousness turned to happiness and excitement. My first experience as a cheerleader at an Augustana basketball game did not disappoint, it was filled with excitement and adrenaline just as
