The audience for writing project one: summary and response will be my classmates and my instructor, Avon Waters. I am writing this for English 111 – an online Ivy Tech college course. This is the first writing project of four for semester one. The assignment is to select a core reading resource from the group listed and perform a summary and response style paper, using proper APA formatting and introducing the concept of a situation analysis. The core reading piece I have selected is one that personally interested me, as it deals heavily with history and facts versus opinions and controversy. This will be in APA format, as with every other paper written in this course. My goal with this paper is to offer additional insight into the piece I
English 101 is one of the most common college courses in the world. When I enrolled in the class, I was bothered that I would have spend forty hours in a freshman writing class; along with at least another forty hours throughout the semester writing for the class. What surprised me, was that when I began writing my essays I was not annoyed or bothered; I actually enjoyed the assignments. Most importantly, throughout the course of the semester, I have become a better writer and have ultimately met the course goals of English 101.
Traditionally, attempts to verify communications between individuals and cultures appeal to 'public' objects, essential structures of experience, or universal reason. Contemporary continental philosophy demonstrates that not only such appeals, but fortuitously also the very conception of isolated individuals and cultures whose communication such appeals were designed to insure, are problematic. Indeed we encounter and understand ourselves, and are also originally constituted, in relation to others. In view of this the traditional problem of communication is inverted and becomes that of how we are sufficiently differentiated from one another such that communication might appear problematic.
The first aspect of the personal identity is developed inside yourself and is referred to as your personal-self. This is your self-awareness or self-knowledge. Self- awareness is developed through personal experiences in life and pertains to the decisions that we make and that we are all responsible for
I am from Canton, Michigan, which is just east of Ann Arbor. I am a freshman hoping to study business here at Michigan. To me, sports have always been an escape from my daily life. When I was younger I would wake up looking forward to nothing other than my soccer practices. As I grew I tried more sports have significant exposure to almost every sport played in the US and Kabadi (an Indian sport). Though I never excelled significantly in any sport, I was always competitive and they remained a source of blissful release for me. Though I played many sports, I only really watched soccer (Hala Madrid), hockey (Go Wings), and football (Go Lions).
The identity theory of mind holds that states and processes of the mind are identical to states and processes of the brain thus particular psychological states are identical with particular type of physical state. Many objections have been lay out by philosophers who have evaluated this theory one objection that is particularly strong is the Martian and octopus criticism which state that if identity theory is true, than these species should not feel pain, but if they do feel pain than identity theory is not true.

Later on, it was translated to “personalitas” and eventually ended up as an Old French term “personalite”, combined with the English term “personal” which represents a sense of “distinctive character”. The way personality is defined is of the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinct character. Your personality can be described with the kind of emotions a person can attain such as happiness, sadness, anger or anxiousness. It is used to describe who you are in general regarding your actions and how you react. Personality is a trait that helps you reach out to others whether you build a friendship or communicate to others who are different than you.
In life, people come across challenging obstacles’ when trying to achieve their goals. College, like that of life, has a variety of challenges that appear in a student’s pathway to their goals. For most college students that are just starting out in the basic classes, such as Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s English 101, problems can arise due to classes being much harder than the prior high school classes the students are used to. Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s class is hard because it has an online portion, it creates stress, and it is a required class.
Shakespeare’s work Much Ado About Nothing, written in 1598, is possibly one of the greatest examples to examine the use of English pronouns in Shakespeare. Other languages such as French, German or Spanish, have always had different pronouns to indicate politeness, social ranks, formality, affection and solidarity as can be seen in the difference between the forms vous and tu in French, du and Sie in German, or tu and usted in Spanish. Even though the so-called ‘relevant’ pronoun no longer exists in English, nowadays it uses variable naming to express the relationships that exists between the speakers such as first names, titles, terms of endearment, last names, nicknames, etc. (Fowler, R. 1996). This essay will analyse the use of the already mentioned forms of address that existed in Shakespeare’s times
Person is used to describe the individual and the systems and subsystems that make that individual unique. It includes a framework of inherent qualities, social, spiritual, cultural and environmental influences that are the foundation of the individual human being (Chitty, 2007, p. 294).
Personal identity has always been a big controversy, whether it be from philosophers in the past or the modern era of everyday people becoming curious. People today still question who they are or even what they are. What is it that makes a person themselves? Philosophers such as Locke have constructed theories as to what personal identity is. John Lockes ideas revolve around the discussion of personal identity and the survival of consciousness after death. John Locke claims that personal identity is a form of psychological continuity. He considers personal identity to be founded on the consciousness, rather than the substance of either soul or body. While I do agree with John Lockes perspective of consciousness, I believe there is more to
In terms of my personal identity, I would say that based on my experiences throughout my life, I considered myself to be hard working, especially when it comes to pursuing my goals; honest; generous, I like taking
A large part of an English teacher’s job deals with helping students find their own voices amidst the many teachings of their parents and peers. A student’s voice can be their values, their interests, and their perspectives of the world in which they live. Their voice can be their critical questioning of the many situations they face, whether in a text, the school cafeteria, or a park after school. It is the job of an English teacher to aid in finding this voice through their writing. It is by putting words and thoughts down on paper that a student can sometimes feel comfortable enough to take risks and find their true voices. Although traditional grammar instruction has long been thought to improve this skill, this is no longer the case. Instead, by providing a classroom environment in which students are immersed in classic literature from many genres including poetry, short stories, and novels, students will learn how to harness grammar for their own purposes of finding their voice in their writing.
